Default What causes the sticky orange gunk build-up in the intake runners?

Hey Guys,
What is the cause of this sticky orange gunk you find in the intake runners of a cylinder head and intake manifold?
I thought I read on here take it might be caused by running to cold of a thermostat. Did some searching on here and didn't find what I was looking for.
Can anyone help with this puzzling substance?

What year is your car.. LS1 or LS2?.. And what Intake and PCV system ?.. early LS1's had oil problem due to the PCV system passing oil into the intake, that could be causing your orange gunk when the oil is mixed with Condensation (water).

Actually a friend had this same gunk in his AFR heads on his 02 C5 when he pulled his intake to replace the oil pressure sending unit.
On my 03, I pulled the intake this spring to remove the balance of the secondary air injection system. That's when I noticed the sticky orange stuff on mine as well. All the runners were coated equally with this stuff. My car has low miles, 25,000., and doesn't use any oil between annual oil changes. I use Mobile 1 and he uses Royal Purple. We both use dex-cool but we have no leaks. Both of use were running 160 thermostats if there's any connection to that.
As an old hot rodder I've removed my share of intakes from cars. Always there is that dk. brown gas/pvc oil residue. But this bright orange sticky stuff is new to me. Oh, any we both use Chevron high test...91 octane here in AZ.
Also he uses an oil catch can and I don't.

I wonder if ethanol as a fuel additive, which absorbs water (hygroscopic), has anything to do with this.

Maybe its orange because its close to Halloween? Sorry I had to add something stupid. Must be some kind of fuel additive you are seeing. My spark plugs always looked red when i was using Marvel Mystery oil.
