Default crank wont turn, standard bearing too small

I am refreshing my motor and when I Mic'd my crank it checked out. I went to the parts store and bought sealed power standard bearings and the bearings are too small causing the crank to not turn. No connecting rods attached just the mains snugged. Wtf is up with this?

Is it a stock crank? Did you seat the thrust bearing?

maybe it needs chamfered bearings.

It is stock crank and no I didn't seat the thrust because I didn't torque down the mains. I only had them snug. I am about to yank all the bearings and check to make sure the parts store didn't give me the wrong ones

Check to make sure they are the correct bearing first. Also, if you had your crank machined, are you sure it was done properly and is perfectly round?

I got the bearings from oreilly autoparts and the part number is 7298ma. I checked the part number and its correct for ls1 engines in a standard size. The crank came out of the same block I am putting it into . All the mains check out and with the caps off the crank spins freely

So it was a working shortblock, the crank wasn't turned, and now it won't spin with new bearings? Are you sure you didn't mix up the main caps, and have them all turned the right way?

You need to seat the thrust bearing. Snug it down and give it a few good hits with a rubber mallet on the front of the crank driving it toward the rear of the block, and then a few hits on the back of the crank driving it toward the front of the block. You'll know when its seated because it will spin like butter. This is "seating the thrust bearing"

Didn't pre-assemble the bearings and mic the I.D.?

Another DIY engine build destined for a "why is my engine knocking???????" thread...

I did and that's why I'm here just asking a couple of questions you dumbass. Crank checks out at 2.559 and the number one main checks out at 2.550.

As for your second statement, you can gtfo! If I didn't come on here then there would be s thread like that. This is just a get by motor until my 418 is done.

Does it stop turning after the first main is bolted down or are you bolting all of them down then trying to turn the crank?

As you probably already know you should turn the crank over each time you torque something down, main caps/rod caps, so you know when you reach a problem.

I am assuming the bearings you got are actually what they say they are?

No reason to puff up and tell us what motor you are going to be building next.

Thats the next step to take. I need to get a Mic to get in between the mains to check them all. The Mic I have hits number one main when I check number two main. I. Am goin to scrap these bearings and get different ones

Crank O.D. = 2.559"
Bearing I.D. = 2.550"

2.559 > 2.550
Crank diameter > bearing diameter

And you're calling me a dumbass?

Actually, my reply was very helpful and helped get him to the solution.

My reply just wasn't very polite, change your panties if you're offended by that.

The parts store guy probably sold him oversize bearings.

Or, perhaps they gave him the correct box, but somebody else returned that box as new but with .010" bearings in there.
