Default Pushrods for stock LT1 w/ 1.6RR's

It looks like I might have to replace some pushrods in the 'ol formula (I havent pulled them out yet but it seems to be the case). I've just got a stock motor with 1.6RR's. Should I just replace them with stockers or should I get hardened or chromoly pushrods?? Really don't know much about them. School me please!

Also, the car will more than likely be cammed by the end of the winter. Should I just do stockers for now and then upgrade them all when I do the cam?

Thanks guys!

Are they self aligning? If they are NSA you need guideplates and hardened pushrods.

I'm not sure but I believe stock length would be ok, but you SHOULD check with a length checker tool.

Throw them on and run a before and after time/dyno. That would be cool to see.

I also believe you'll need better springs as the stock ones aren't good for 1.6 rockers. LT4 springs are good for just that or wait and get some GOOD springs and do that and the rockers when you cam it.

I would double check the PR length, as you may need a longer PR. Are you reusing stock lifters?

does anyone read any more?...he says he already has RR's installed..
"I've just got a stock motor with 1.6RR's"
if you've checked your PR's on a flat surface like glass....and found warped ones then yes put new stock length ones in...i.e. chromoly pushrods ..are you using stock springs currently?

Yo chill the freak out. If he has aftermarket rockers the question should be asked just in case.

I'm running stockers with my cam and 1.6rr;s, but it wouldn't hurt to get some better ones, but probably not necessary.

Stock length will be fine. Why exactly do you think that they need to be replaced?

instead of spending money on pushrods, buy some VS2700 valve springs from bullet and get a custom ground cam from delta camshaft!

Default Stock Springs with 1.66

Have you ever had any issues with coil binding or valve float with using those stock springs and 1.6rr? Just curious--Thanks!

How the hell do people bend pushrods? I'm on my second cam swap with the stock 150,000 mile pushrods and they are straight as an arrow.

I bent the **** out of one last year with a 5800rpm redline, stock springs, and 1.6 rr's. I thought what turned out to be the roller rocker hitting the valve cover was initially a header gasket going out(exhaust leak) I had been battling at the time. I had a local shop take a look at it when it started missing and they said the pushrods where fine, and it was probably spark plugs or the opti ...couples days went by and the car ran worse and worse, took it to a speed shop and the rest is pretty self explanatory.

Now recently, The car has lost a little power over the last few weeks (driven it maximum 20 miles since I've noticed it) and Im noticing a very small knock in the motor...sounds like its below the valve cover again-not sure if it's just the RR's being noisy or if it's starting to happen again-havent had the time to pull the valve cover yet and inspect.

I know from personal experience that incorrectly setting the valve lash or not tightening the locking allen screw tight enough will cause bent pushrods, possibly bent valves, broken valve springs, and broken aluminum roller rockers. I think if the lash is on the loose side and get just a little loose, especially with SA rr's that they can bend pushrods.

I'm coming to the conclusion that most broken parts that you hear about from valve springs to opti's and bad o2 sensors...(wiring extension f'ed up ot touching exhaust), are mainly from improper install. And this is from my own personal experience.

Hardened aren't any stiffer than stock. Chromoly is on the other hand.

Might as well do hardened chromemoly for the extra piece of mind. 7.2s will be fine and as stated throw in the LT4 springs while you are at it

This is a pretty good thread indicating why you shouldn't use stock springs with 1.6 rockers.

I agree!!

With respect to pushrods, just for grins, I installed a set of Manley hardened pushrods when I installed my RRs a few years back. I'm sure I didn't really need them, but the price was reasonable enough (through Scoggin-Dickey), so I said, "Why not???"
