Default How do you tell if your in "V4" mode?

I bought a 2005 Grand Prix GXP about 5 days ago, and was wondering if there is a way to know if your in V4 or V8 mode? Any indication besides the instant fuel economy?

Thanks in Advance

Chad

The exhaust note, that's the only other way on the GXP. The SSes have a display.

If it sounds like a low flying helicopter is tailing you, you may be in 4 cylinder mode.

I like the way 4-cylinder mode sounds . Nights I come home at 1 or 2am down an empty street with a 30mph speed limit, I just stick it in 4th gear and put it on cruise control and listen to it happily chug along while making 24+ mpg.

...just about the only time I get good mileage in the GXP!

You'll be able to hear it as soon as you get sensitive to how it sounds.

My car is like a bank vault inside. The front windows are double-pane plus there is 1/4" thick padding everwhere (i.e., trunk, front fenders) so it is tough to discern when the DOD is kicking in.

No display in the Super.

This is why you buy 3m 2-sided tape, foam tape, and Dynamat type material. When you hear a squeek or rattle, you first get all pissed off, then you turn off the radio and hvac to locate the noise. Once pinpointed you remove the panel and apply all previously mentioned materials to make the noise stop. I haaaate squeeks and rattlles!
