Default My '85 Camaro LSx swap project...

Well since I got rid of my 4th gen a while ago I just been too bored without something to work on. Now I got my hands full. This '85 camaro was my old high school car and had a killer 383 (forged, afr's,demon 850,etc). But after 4-5yrs of hot rodding, the block cracked. Car has been sitting in my dads garage for about 4yrs (DMV back fees are $700!) Anyways, my bro helped me picked it up a couple days ago and now is in my garage. Hoping to get it up sometime in the summer next year. Its a lot to learn right now but its gonna be really cool to get it back on its feet. Here are some pics of it:

When we were towing it back to my place:

An OLD interior pic:

The 383 that was in there:

About 7yrs ago:

What it looked like in High School

I'll try and keep this thread updated with any progress I got going on.....thanks for looking

That looks so close to my high school car 18 years ago. My hood latch broke off my hood and shattered it in 4 pieces. It got a steel hood after that. I love them cars. Good luck

The reason why I have hood pins is because my hood flew off too! lol. I forgot to latch it and driving around 45mph it cracked the hood and shattered my windshield.

I like the color, but that chrome grill belongs on a 4WD truck. You'll be glad you went to LS power.

Yeah those will most likely be removed. Going with a 408ci

Started to remove some wiring and waiting for my ls1 harness to come in. Gonna clean up the engine bay a little more and prep it to lay down some por-15

Got my stroker kit in today, so just need to find time to take everything to the machine shop. All forged internals, Wiesco pistons/Eagle rods & crank. Gonna order the lsx mounts for the car in a couple weeks.

Keep the hood for sure, but if you want a frill like that, get something like mine. That one you have doesnt look right.

Going EFI i assume? I went carbed and love it.:

Car looks badass man. Yeah the hood just makes the car so its staying. The grill will be coming off. I'm going to go efi, but thinking it may be cheaper to stay carbed since the old 305 was already carb? I mean since it had a mechanical fuel pump I'm gonna have to change to electric fuel pump anyways right?

Man its been a little while since I kept this thread updated. Been busy working and saving to buy some parts. Anyhow.....here are some update pics:

De-greased and clean the engine bay area some:

Touch it up with some black:

Picked up the shortblock from machine shop:

Dropped the shortblock in:

My little parts section lol:

I should be getting my AFR heads this week to put on top. I also had my wiring harness done by "Pocket" (well known on TGO.com) which did an AMAZING job to make it plug-n-play. I have the chassis mounted torque arm in and have the th400 laying on the side of the car. Just waiting for a flexplate and couple gaskets to get tranny thrown in.

Next thing I'll probably tackle after all this is the fuel system. Gotta convert the old carb setup to the EFI so that will be kinda interesting.

All in all, It's slowly getting there and just can't wait to get it running!!! lol

I used the Spohn lsx swap motor mounts. Really nice piece and the motor dropped right in.

Stand the old LS1 crank up on end in your garage. Cranks tend to warp when laid down like that

Got the heads in the other day. Just kinda mocked them up and waiting to get a few other parts. Painted the valve covers silver while I was there. Now gotta find the right flexplate to mate up to the block so I can throw the th400 in.

After that its time to save up for some expensive headers and a FAST intake setup and convert the fuel system. Man.....this is never ending $$$$$$ lol

sorry for the cell phone pics:

I promised myself it was going to be a "budget build" when I do the swap. I'm already 3x past my spending limit and MAYBE halfways done! lol.

My wife said though, "Do it all once and do it right", so why not save up and do it right the first time
