Just when I did not need another expencive hobby like racing, being a pilot, and photography, I decided to get into firearms... lol

This is the first time I build the rifle from the ground up!

This is my version of the Navy Mark12 SPR: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Navy_Mark_12_Mod_X_Special_Purpose_R ifle

Had to make some comprimises to make it NJ legal, but oh well. Can't wait to see how she shoots!

Since this is a car forum, I figured I would combine the two loves:

Assembled the lower first:
http://avoronoff.hypermart.net/SPR/LOWER_ON%20INTAKE.jpg

Assembled the upper a few days later and the two mated like a dream!

Pardon the filthy car

For those who are into firearms, here is the list of parts used:

Lower:
Noveske Stripped lower
G&R Tactical Lower Parts Kit, Mil Receiver Extention, Standard spring, H-Buffer
Magpul ACS Stock - Foliage Green[pinned to make it NJ Legal :( ]
Magpul MIAD Grip - Foliage Green
Noveske QD End plate

Upper:
VLTOR MUR-1A upper reciever
Noveske 18" SS Barrel
Battlecomp v1.5 brake [pinned/welded to make NJ Legal :( ]
BCM Bolt Carrier Group
LaRue Tactical 13.2" FF Rail
LaRue Tactical SPR-E scope mount
Nightforce 2-10x32 Mil-Dot/MOA scope
Magpul Ladder covers - foliage green
LaRue Tactical Bi-Pod mount w/Harris BRM bi-pod

Bet that bitch was expensive to build. LRT makes nice stuff but goddamn does he charge a shitload for it.

Nightforce, Noveske, LRT, MagPul...I smell arfcom. :D

Modding ARs is like modding cars - takes forever to finish one, and when you do, you just buy another to build differently. I want to build an SBR next year when I get a little extra money (ergo, when my vampire car gets her teeth out of my neck).

Pics aren't showing for me, but it's prolly my slower connection. (3G/4G card)

And yeah I've been wanting to build an AR too. Been lurking on AR15.net on an off.

AR15.com is like the CorvetteForum to out beloved LS1Tech... mostly waxers rather than racers. Though I am a member of AR15.com because they have a better local forum. LOL

When and IF I get my property in Maine set up, I want to have a long range, sniper-type, range in the woods with some hefty berms. I'd love to put some stuff out at 1000 yards and do target sniping. :D First to get shot is my crappy PC Miler Truck GPS... :bang: POS

Yeah, the shit-talkers over there get pretty bad at times. For a self-proclaimed "libertarian forum", they sure ban a lot of people for not agreeing with the hive mind.

The tech sections aren't too bad though, it didn't seem like.

I'm really looking at a Grendel variant for a long-range build...the 5.56mm just doesn't have enough punch far out for me to be happy with it.

Looks good! AR's are my favorite to build, they just look / perform awesome! I just helped my cousin build his first AR a few weeks ago, he saw one I built and had to have one too! :D

Looks great, kinda similiar to my build, and kudos for not using FDE like 99% of everyone else. I'm interested in hearing how that Battle Comp works for you, its supposed to work pretty good.

One cool thing you can get for close range situations is something like this:

Mount:
http://www.opticsplanet.net/trijicon-rail-offset-adapter-for-rmr.html

Red Dot:
http://www.opticsplanet.net/trijicon-reddot-sight-4-0-moa-ms04.html

I was hanging out with this guy last weekend who is a Green Beret and he showed me his duty gun on his civilian lower and he had something like that and it was one of the coolest mods I have seen for these guns. He has a scope on top and then this mounted off to the side for close quarters situations he can just cock the gun at an angle and look through the red dot (mount and optic may vary, this is just an example).

Anyways, I was just excited to learn about this since I had never heard about it before. Badass gun btw.

Yes I was thinking of using a Daniel Defence 1 O'clock mount with some kind of RedDot, but a Trijicon RMR or a Aimpoint H1 are a lot of money lol... money that I spent on the rest of the gun lol

For short rangeness, just look down the scope and keep both eyes open. I do it with my ACOG an a 16" AR

nice build...so many times I see people's custom build with flea market parts and it crushes my soul

middy or rifle length gas? I'm horrible at looking at pics and telling the difference

How much luck can you really have with alt cals? I built an alt cal AR15 one time and I had a lot of issues with magazine followers jamming and the gun didn't load reliability. Even with a HD spring it still had some FTFs due to the primers not being hit hard enough.

I am a little shy of doing this again. What calibers will work flawlessly in the AR15 and what companies make the best uppers and mags to get this done?

Very nice! Coincidentally I am also finishing my lower build tonight! Then it's time to start building an upper.

I've always been more into classic rifles (WW2: MN's, Springfields, etc), but I would love to build an AR if I had the cash.
That color scheme looks good too. Normally I don't like rails and guard painted differently but you pulled it off.:thumb:

I think a sweet heavy barrel rifle would be on my wishlist first though. I would kill for anything from Accuracy International.

I don't know if any of you guys have tried them yet, Saiga rifles, produced by Izmash. I bought a Saiga 12 and converted it, very easy/fun rifle project to keep you entertained. Never can lean how to take too many guns apart right?

They're not too bad with the ARs. I'd consider a .308/7.62, but that caliber just doesn't have enough thud far out for me. Zombies are tough at 1000 yards.

Honestly couldn't tell you who makes the best wildcat receivers...been a while since I was looking at them (I can only afford guns or the car as a hobby at one time, and it's been the car over the summer). I've found the best thing to do is to lurk on the tech side of the different AR forums - there are some pretty sharp guys in those, and if a manufacturer has build quality issues (with the exception of H&K and Colt), it usually gets called out pretty quickly.

*cough* .50 beowulf *cough*

6.5 Grendel is great for long range, out to about 1,000 yards. Both are made by Alexander arms.

You probably would have to make your own. I have looked out here, ranges like that (over, say, 500 yards), that are listed as public or private ranges, seem to be few and far between. I want to build a 6.5mm Grendel AR, although I think 1000 yards is really pushing the limit of that round. I'd like to build a range where I live too. Somebody is firing a semiautomatic as we speak LOL!
I started writing this, and I here "pow, pow...powpowpowpow". It's always like that, I here gunfire pretty much every day.

I see somebody mentioned Grendel above me too. Alexander Arms makes some nice stuff. I think it would probably take incredible skill to shoot accurately at 1000 yards with a 6.5mm Grendel. I think it probably takes incredible skill to shoot that range with any round actually. So I've heard on the internet. LOL!

Check out 65grendel.com - it's a good forum if you're interested in that round.

Nice build with high quality parts, that's a keeper. Your scope and mount set up is the stuff of dreams. :)
