5.3 and 6.0 in Ford Rangers? Hey everyone, I have a couple of Rangers I am preparing for LS swaps. I was wondering if anyone on here has done this before? Looking at going with Howell for the harnesses (They are who I used for the 68 conversion), and not sure who to go with on the PCM's. Also, not sure what to do about exhaust. I have been told that I can use block hugger headers if I take a good sized notch out of the frame, but not sure. I really want to keep the exhaust between the frame rails, because both trucks I plan on driving. A LOT. Any help would be great! Thanks in advance!

asked about this a few weeks ago.....didnt get much response....my buddy is about to do one also....oh well....looks like we are on our own....doesnt look to hard tho.....espcially if you can swap one in a s10...which is not that hard...

That's what I was thinking. Talked to a couple guys who build race trucks (desert trucks) and they were all talking about running the headers outside the frame. From what I've gathered over there, all you need is the harness, which costs between 400-700 bucks and the PCM to be tuned to it. I emailed Howell about making a plug in

I have a 94 2wd that has a blown up 2.3 in it. As far as I have seen online about all you need to do is for motor fitment is notch the back of the cross member about 2". Other than that I don't know. Yet...

that is only if you use the car oil pan. If you use the truck pan, it clears no problem. It fits between the rails no problem, you have to make or buy universal motor mounts, and either reprogram the computer or put the GM column and harness in. I have seen it done both ways, but again, these were on desert trucks. Both trucks had the exhaust on the outside of the frame.

well, instead of a 6.0 in the 4by, looks like it will be a 5.3. Found one that came out of a 05 Escalade for 300 bucks. its disassembled down to the shortblock, and comes with everything except a PCM. Guy wants 300 bucks for it. What do you guys think?

I've got a 92 ranger all set up for desert racing. I'm a small step ahead as its already got a SBC and a Turbo 400 in it. I've recently been going through the logistics of a 6.2l swap. Ill be running it standalone and sending out the pcm but I'm not sure if I'm going to buy a harness or hack one up from the donor truck.

The SBC fits pretty good inside the frame rails. I used Bock huggers and notched the top of the c channel about 1 inch and boxed the frame around that area. I was hoping to use some ls block huggers since custom fenderwell headers are so pricey.

im buying a new harness. Gutting the original one is such a pain, its only 650 for a comlpete harness that is SOOO easy. Howell makes such a good product, then I gotta find a PCM and 4L60E

Mine is a bit extreme as I cut the firewall between the frame rails, then moved it back about 8 inches and filled it in with removable plates. I've seen others do it where they just recess the firewall about an inch. Since the LS motors don't have a distributor, I'd imagine it should be a bit easier. I'll post up some pics when I get a few minutes. Also check out therangersation.com. Their are a few guys on their who've done a much more streetable swap.

i only know of 2 guys who have chevy motors in their trucks on TRS, and i didnt think anyone on there had an LS series in thier rig. My build is on there as well. Same SN here, there, RPS, DR, and Camaro Forums
