Nitrous Oxide - How NOT, i repeat, NOT to install a nitrous kit!

Now, i know this is not the media section but it is the "nitrous" section and this is nitrous related. But if this needs to be moved then feel free to move it. But this is a good video for a lot of "nitrous rookies" to watch. It shows everthing that you should NOT do, i think it could be beneficial for the noobs.

Also, its a good laugh!

On his youtube site he says this in his comments.

verylongfamilylife

no tune needed with 100 shot.you can purge the nitrous as long as you want just make sure the nozzles dont freeze.anything over 100 shot and you need a tune or pull timing.

Can't you just add a steel threaded nozzle thin enough to fit thru the vents and then just add a nut on each side to hold it firmly if he really wanted to have them there?

Yeah and it looked like all he needed to do was take out the 2 screws holding them in and use a small hole saw bit and it would have been much better.

I knew it was fail when he had to move the feed line to see the arming and purge buttons. Hell if he would spent 15 minutes and used some black split loom and secured the purge lines and wiring to the hood it would really just been the feed line to mess with him on. Oh and the controller strapped to the battery.

Well Okay if he had just spent another hour or two he would have been fine.

The best part about that is the fact that the zip ties are around the body of the window switch, too - totally bypassing the convenient mounting holes on the base of the switch. Half-assed x2

10-21-2010, 07:41 PM
I would give him credit where it is due. The wires were in loom for the most part, the window switch (I would put it under the dash) could simply be moved a mounted to the strut tower, and the purge lines need to be re-routed along the back of the hood and secured to the hood(or prefferably shortened and not mounted to the hood), Finlay the nozzle placement could be chosen much better. Those are the things to change. The plate for the noids looks nice, the wires are loomed the purge isn't too bad but he got over zealous making the hole but he knows that. I would grade the install 7 because he just needs a few tweaks and will have a good looking set up.

Maybe I am too lenient but i think you guys are being too harsh.

This guys install just show lack of experience. Obviously he has not found his way to the great LS1 tech nitrous community for help. Rather than making fun of him someone should chase him down and offer some advice. If he responds like an idiot then treat him like an idiot. He may just need some guidence.

I know when I was a young buck I did some pretty stupid stuff because I did not know any better and I had no one to tell me any different. Back then there was a lot of gray areas when it came to nitrous.

Well you seemed to have learned from your mistakes and you aren't being a dick for all the hate we sent your way. So that's cool with me. You manned up in my book. Good luck with your next install.

P.S. Fill out your profile.

thanks man.im not gonna get anywhere being a dick.some of the harsh remarks actually made me giggle.have you ever seen those old cartoons where the guy makes a device where theres a work boot suspended by some string and pullies and the guy bends over and pulls the string and the boot kicks him in the ass?......thats me.

Big ups to Leeroy!! Some of these haters are not yet old enough to look back on the work the have done and laugh about it. I did my install (my first), but only b/c my step dad has masters in Elec Engineering and was willing to help. There are as many dumb hater posts on this thread, as posts in this forum with owners of pretty installs that need help cause thier crap don't work! Keep spraying with a smile Leeroy. And to the rest of ya...Hate..hate...Hate...hate!!!!:bang:

if you are looking for a place to install the nozzle, look at the bellow that connects the MAF to the TB.

yes. supposidly baked in the sun and the blow down valve wasnt on or broke. So KABOOM went the bottle.

I actually remember when that happened to that particular car. IIRC it was a bottle heater that got left on.

Classic fail....however I can't promise I would've made it that far along on my own and had a functioning system. I lack the expertise to perform the type of functional and clean install I was looking for so I simply went the "pay a professional to do the work" route.

Props to the owner for manning up and working through the trial and error portion of the install process. Hopefully the next one will go better for you.

I only got to see this video once or twice before it was taken down. Anyone got a copy? I have a few friends who need a good chuckle.
