I love the Hot Rod Power Tour, and I've done 6 Long Hauls, but I must say I'm disappointed that they keep going to some of the same cities/areas over and over :(
However, I do plan on going again next year.

maromoma
10-23-2010, 12:16 PM
Yeah I am disappointed too! We were in the Detroit area 2 yrs ago and I sure do not want to go back there again. We have gone on PT 4 times and did 2 long hauls and it was a priceless experience, we loved it! But I think its taking a toll on our 70 Camaro. True it has AC, overdrive, a good strong engine, but the exterior is taking a beating with dings & chips which is expected, but I dont want it getting worse. We love driving and showing it, going on shorter cruises so want to preserve it as best we can. I was hoping for some of the stops to be a little closer to home for us and since they aren't will sit out the '11 tour.

I still recommend for others to go and live the dream, it's a blast!

10-25-2010, 11:50 AM
You either build them to drive or you build them to sit around and look good...I prefer to tour till it hurts..I put 25K-30K a year on my ride and I repainted the whole car and replaced the windshield a few years back..if you drive them they will get nicked up .... I'll probably will have to repaint it again in the near future..I don't care I built it to drive and have fun with ... I go to alot of car events over the course of the year...but the Power Tour puts all of rest them to shame on the fun factor guage...:D:drive:

PS Don't be skeeered of Detroit ... it won't hurt ya.

I get what u are saying.

But this was our 1st and probably our last project. We're not gifted to do the all the work ourselves and had some of it done professionally. Its built to drive but to look good too. It has candy paint and as u know u just can't touch it up like u can some other paints. Not saying we won't do PT again, hopefully we will but maybe by then we will have taken care of the paint issues. Just want to keep it looking as good as possible for as long as we can :) Got a lot invested in it :)

What are the qualifications of a hotrod in order to participate? In other words what does the car have to be? What's your definition of a hotrod?

there have been minivans(with several years worth of participant stickers)... anything can run, no regs.. you have to have current registration and proof of ins to get registered though.

some of the "non traditional" cars i happen to have pic's of online...

I've always wanted to go ever since the Power started years ago. Never works out.
I would like to go in my 02 SS. I've driven her 1300 miles round trip and wasn't too bad. Not sure about taking 3000 mile trip. I'd like to go with friends, but if I wait on them, I might never go. So what can a 1st timer like me expect going solo..or is solo not recommended?

Gray86hatch
10-27-2010, 05:30 PM
We like to roll alone. Travel at our own pace stop when we feel like it. If you have problems someone always stops.

Last year we did 2000 miles in my dads 71 chevelle with no ac and a 4 year old in the back seat. It was hot to say the least.

I also like doing drag week solo we may hook up with someone and drive for a few hours but no set plans.

Maxgee, u may be driving solo, but with 3000-4000 some vehicles, u will not be alone! You will gain more friends that u ever imagined! We didnt know anyone the first time we went, but as we traveled from one stop to the next we would caravan with others we met at a gas station or a restaurant. Then we might not ever see those guys again, or u might make life long friends with some too. Its a blast!

Check out the forum for Pwr Tour at www.hotrod.com and gets lots of info!

I will have to disagree with you big time on that one dude ... I think it is a great route..Valdosta Georgia at South Georgia Motorsports Park is a great drag strip and a great venue....GM fed us lunch there on the 2006 Power Tour..Indianapolis Motor Speedway ... doesn't get any better than that ..what an awsome venue ... don't miss visiting the speedway museum .. I bet that they open the drag strip in Cleremont where the US Nationals are held while we are there to...it is only a few miles down the road from the speedway ... and ending at the GM Tech Center...sounds pretty good to me..TOUR TILL IT HURTS..:drive:..:D

We did the long haul last year in the camaro and loved every mile and minute. That's even though the car had a fuel misfire that I had to work on at the last 3 stops. I took off from law school last summer just to do the PT. Unfortunately, I can't do that again. We hope to go again in 2012.

I did pick up some nicks and scrapes in the paint of my car, but the experience was worth it. The car got nonstop compliments and thumbs up for its sound.

This is gonna be my first and me and my Brother are gonna be doing it in 2 different cars, we will be long hauling in a brazin orange 06 GTO with a HUGE cam and a silver 02 z28 with "unknown mods" its being 100% completely tore apart and rebuilt from the ground up

I can't wait to go again. We have to sit '11, but will be long hauling again in 2012.

My car suffered a few scrapes and chips, but man was it worth it! Met lots of good folks, even some that live in my back yard that I'd never met except on line. Maromoma!

We met up with DrededSS and thoroughly enjoyed their company. One day we didn't follow the group and followed a certain silver Chevelle and the Lingenfelter TA camaro conversion and had lunch with their drivers. The silver 'Velle was owned by Mike Copeland, yes GM's Mike Copeland. That was my highlight of the tour.

Go ahead and pre-register. Then at that time pick the stop that you will be joining the tour. Just show up on the 7th to pick up your packet and credentials! When we went a couple of years ago, the tour techs did not show up until mid morning and I believe they stay there for a good while in the afternoon.

You will be fine. Good luck!

When you register they give you a packet with a goodie bag and other stuff including directions to the venues...you can follow that route with 99% of the rest of the tourers or you can travel what ever way you wish.

Regarding the 6/10 date in Detroit; does that mean that the tour drives from Muskegon to Detroit on that date or is the tour in Detroit & makes a local drive on that date? On 6/11, is there a drive or just a meet for the awards ceremony?
