Special Edition Vehicles - 1996/97 SS with Chrome ZR1s?

Does anybody know how Chrome ZR1s appeared on 96/97 Camaro SS? I do not see Chrome ZR1s as an option for 96 or 97 SS so I am confused. The only theory I have is... if the Z28 had the Chrome wheel picked as an option, it forced Chrome ZR1's when the Z28 was being converted to an SS. Any thoughts or are Chrome ZR1s on a 96/97 SS a non "factory" combination.

they look nice usually come in black was for the corvette zr1 and aluminum color was for your ss 96/97. factory never had chromed ones but you can get them on ebay. trust me once you put them theyl look bad ass

I do not beleive GM ever offered chrome ZR1's on the SS . . . in any year . . .

As far as I know SLP chromed them and put them on the SS.

On my 2000 SS the chrome ZR1's were a SLP option.

Same with the 10 spokes.

GM did make chrome ZR1's though . . .

Starting in 1998, chrome ZR1s were an SLP Option and not offered from GM. But, until I am proven wrong, I think you could get Chrome ZR1s from SLP in 1996 and 1997.

Now, If it were me and probably lots of other 4rth Gen owners, and I wanted to get chrome wheels, I know I would not spend good money on another set of 16" wheels just to get chrome, most owners would have just gone the extra mile to buy 17" wheels (it just looks so much better).

I said this in my first post and I will try to say it differently again.

1996 was the first year for GM to offer Chrome wheels on the Camaro (RPO N98) Ex: Chrome 16" "Salad shooters"

Hypothetically, here is how a 96/97 SS gets their Chrome ZR1s: In 1996, A customer orders their Z28 with the 16" Chrome wheels (N98), this Z28 then gets shipped to SLP for upfitting, since the customer paid for the Chrome "Z28" Wheels, SLP figured they should get Chrome ZR1 too.

I would love to know if this is true.

Well, I contacted the owner of the Polo Green 96 SS Convertible in the above photo and asked if the Chrome wheels were in fact delivered with the Car from SLP. They were not, he actually went and bought 16" Chrome ZR1 wheels from SLP years later.

At this point, I am going to have to believe that Chrome ZR1 wheels were not offered on the 96/97 Camaro SS.

If anyone knows different, please speak up, I would like to know.

I've seen many '96 and '97 SSes with chrome ZR1s, but as to whether they were originally equipped with them... I do not know.

Concerning 16 inch ZR1s, all the SS verts from '96-'97 had 16 inch ZR1 wheels and the stock Z28 suspension. You were not allowed to get the SS suspension.
