Default New N/A best and an unreal street tire pass!

Well, I ventured back out again to beat on the Nova once more at Gainesville yesterday and try to improve on my 11.51 best. Was in the 40s and somewhat humid but we also had a 5-7 mph headwind so my initial thoughts were I'd be stuck in the 50s again......

Well, 1st pass

RT -001
60 -1.592
330 -4.651
660 -7.263
mph -93.58
1000 -9.541
1/4 -11.485
mph -115.29

car pulled the front wheels like never before and solidly planted the et streets!

I followed that with :
RT -005
60 -1.590
330 -4.650
660 -7.265
mph -93.42
1000 -9.546
1/4 -11.493
mph -115.19

My 3rd run was an 11.53 @ 114.3 with a 1.591 60 foot. The headwind was slightly higher, but I was still happy as hell!

Then I got a little crazy and said let's see if I can hook this thing up on my street tires (REGULAR NON-DRAG RADIALS 275/16/15 at 27 psi )

First pass was a 12.07 @ 115.06 with a 2.03 60 foot b/c it spun bad on my dry hop so I didn't get on the gas for quite a bit.

Than I tried again in the left lane (lane I ran all 3 et street runs) and got this amazing pass:
60 -1.791
330 -4.879
660 -7.492
mph -93.60
1000 -9.770
1/4 -11.714
mph -115.34

I couldn't believe it! Needless to say I packed it up and drove home!

I have video of the 1st 2 runs and maybe I'll get them up soon!

Nice reaction times Derek.

Looks like you are ready for the bracket season to start.

Times were pretty cool also.

Nice, always fun when street tires hook.

I find it interesting how your MPH was basically the same on a slick or radial, would have expected the radial to be higher.

John- yeah a few buddies and I got the word that since the track has been "freshened" the preferred lane was the left. I made 3 runs on my et streets with 1.590 to 1.592 60 foots, and a buddy with a big block 71 nova went between 1.439 and 1.444 on 3 runs on 10.5 tires, so yeah the track was definately there! I've had a 1.804 on radials before but that was with my old motor when it had 100 lbs less torque and I could get on it a lot quicker.

Dug- they are Starfire 5000 275/60/15 radials, I get them in Ocala, FL from a tire store where a racing buddy of mine works. They are a generic Cooper Cobra brand and cost about $70 bucks a tire. great for burnouts....

Catfish-yeah you would have definately been in the 12s, air was better b/c of being cloudy most of the day even though the week before felt much colder, and of course the headwind sucked!

Coach-I'm scared of the new LED's now! I'm trying to leave on a count for a 030-040 light, but maybe this is a good thing since I'll have the "bulls-eye" on my back all year!

Silver-when I used to switch between my 26 x 10 et streets and my radials, the car would typically run .5 to almost a full mph faster, but these new et streets and my radials are very close in diameter size and contact patch.

The LED light are a little scary. I think with practice we should be ok.

I understand about your "bulls-eye" on your back.

I will make ya list of the stickers I need tonight.

Good luck buddy.

I have heard some good things about Cooper Cobra tires. A guy at a mustang forum claimed to have gotten 1.7's sixty ft times out them on a 5.0L fox mustang. Hes got 295 50 15" size. Maybe they have soft compound and sidewall.

I believe that is the quickest street tire pass I have ever seen. I know a lot of folks that have tried for 11's on street tires and just couldn't get the car to hook up.

Nice work

Nice work

That is a very nice (non-drag tire) run. And i was feeling pretty good about running 11.98@115 with my stock Goodyears and a 100 shot. Nice job!

I don't remember the 60' time... I remember that night, though. It was a scary ride on those tires @ 1000ft.

I think I went 11.1 @ 129mph or so, but I couldn't go WOT until almost half-track or so if I remember correctly. Back when the car only ran low 11's on slicks, I did run an 11.7x with a 1.7x 60' on the very same tires.
