Paint & Body Work - Side Mirror Glass - Does it Come out?

I am painting the mirrors and was wondering if the glass in the side mirror housings come off and snap back on? I thought I remember doing this on accident to my old camaro, but it actually broke off. I can tape it off of course, but it's always easier when off.

Yes, it does. Here is a picture of the inside of a couple mirrors. My 95 used different fasteners to hold the assembly in than the 2000 internals I replaced it with. Be careful not to break the little clips.

Wait, so how do you "undo" the clips? You guys just pulling it out or getting a screw driver back there or what?

That's what I was going to ask.

I just put something back there and pried it out carefully. Just know that there's a clip at the top and the bottom. Pry the top clip out and then the bottom one. It's pretty simple. Just be aware that the newer ones use torx bits and the older ones use a phillips head if you are taking out the inner piece.

OK cool. Thanks for the info! I'll have my Torx set handy!

Look like all gm power mirrors are the same in the inside

the glass i pulled off of a '94 had small round tabs i had to trim off because they didnt allow the cross on the back to sink in and grab, let alone even touch. might have pics under a search for "junkyard goldmine" or "blue mirrors" in the app. and detail section

yeah.... I kill the LH side mirror while backing out of the garage about a year ago or so. :(

Got the replacement mirror and it wasn't blue.

Fortunately... I didn't killed the mirror itself, just the housing. (Which was a good thing because the motors on the replacement mirror sounded like :turd: and didn't work well either. I would up taking the entire gutts from my mirror and my blue mirror and installing them in the new housing.)
