Default Bluetooth option

Anybody know about the bluetooth option in the 2009 and 2010 impala??
Would I be able to just swap out my radio - cd player (non-bose) for a bluetooth unit from an 09 or a 10 and be plug and play??? Everything looks the same on both from a cosmetic standpoint. Oh yea, I have an 06 impala ss.

I'm sure a dealer would have to reprogram the anti theft. There are some pioneer swaps and I think those units have bluetooth.

No. Aftermarket head units have Bluetooth integrated in the radios.

Bluetooth came in all 2009 MY (model year) GM vehicles. It is actually a part of the VCIM (OnStar module). To activate: Hold down the mute button on your steering wheel.

Yes, you can swap it out. No, you cannot buy them from a dealer (whether they're online or not).

They show up on eBay every now and then but they're very expensive (those scoundrels know what they have) and you have to make sure you're getting the right module. Third caveat: Once you swap it over to your vehicle, there will be a VIN mismatch. This will permanently disable OnStar (if you rely on/use it) until you get the module reprogrammed for your VIN (Chris White can do this).

YMMV.

Would like to link the cell phone for hands free usage through the radio.

You have to run wires for the mic for the e-bay one. with the other it uses the factory one and it gets rid of the onestar.

just get a new head unit, i thought i would miss having the 6 cd changer but part of the kenwood head unit i bought was an USB in that works for USB keys as well as ipod controls ... so i threw a SD card reader in the car and am using one of the many microsd cards from my cell phone ... it plays instantly and sounds equal compared to cds because it is the same bitrate but obviously in a much smaller form without the need to carry all the shiny circles around in the car ... but then again my music collection is nearly 100 gb's so im constantly playing a bunch of stuff

and the bluetooth model is around 300 bucks

Bluetooth in a Grand Prix. Using a Corvette's VCIM. The boxes are different so it's sitting on the floor for now. I'll have to find a similar box and swap everything out, but it works. No OnStar, but who cares. It's factory.

Notice the mounting "ears" on the sides. Corvette up front with the extra antenna for Bluetooth.

Shoot for all that trouble you can find a BT applicable head unit from Pioneer for under $300, assuming you're not in the need for navi.

I've had one in my '02 Silverado and I love it.

It's all about keeping it OEM and not loosing features. The stock NAV displays turn-by-turn directions on the HUD.

I have a 2011 impala onstar module in my 2006 impala for the bluetooth. It's plug and play and works perfectly. The microphone in your rear view mirror works just fine for calls. The steering wheel controls work just the same and require no modifications.

One thing to note, I tried the onstar button and talked to a rep and they still see the wrecked 2011 impala vin transmitted over... But onstar is useless and bluetooth wireless for the phone is worth the trade.

.. Just noticed the age of this post... Whatever maybe the info will be good for someone searching

Do you need any extra wiring or cables to make this mod work or does the cars have it and just need to swap it over.
