Default Ls1 stroker kit possibilities

Ok, I`m a little worried about my searching abilities cause most forums and discussions I`ve come across say i cant stroke my ls1/ls6 04 aluminum gto motor cause its not an iron block.
Now i know with the stroker kits for the small block, they come in a few sizes, 383-408-427. I was going to go with the 408 cause i will be dd it and 383 isn`t enough and 427 is a beast beyond belief.
My current set up is some bolt ons and a tv2 cam and ls6 stg 2 prc heads from tsp. Right now I`m at 409whp and 368tq. A modern gain.

Am i sh8t out of luck or is it safe for me to do a 402-408 stroker. I`ve seen a 383 one when i google it but I`m really not trying to do a measly 383. I really dont want to just rebuild it and then do a SC or turbo.

Also a side note- with my current set up( cam choose ) how will it act with a 408 if its possible and safe to stroke it? Will it seem less aggressive since it has bigger qubes?

I have a similar thread going:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...-99-block.html

From what I've read it seems the most you can safely stroke an LS1 is to a 383, anything bigger and you'll want an iron block.

I've got a 2002 ls1 block that I'm planning the same with and I wanted more cubes as well, but ended up deciding with the 383. Due too the aluminum block would need to be resleeved with special sleeves to achieve your 408 to be reliable .
if you wanted to stay aluminum I would find a ls2 block and start with that and go 402 from tx speed I have seen a few ls1 383 pass the 500 rear wheel mark but with some of the healthiest head and custom cam combos. And I have a friend who has a iron 408 with a ms3 cam and it sounded like a gm hot cam practically with the more cubed and stroke so a bigger cam is def reccomended

Like these guys said, the biggest you can safely go on an LS1 aluminum block is the 383. There is not enough sleeve to go any larger.

If you go 408 your current heads would work fairly well but you would want a larger cam. The torquer v2 would be a pretty small cam in a 408 c.i. motor.

Either find a cheap iron block and go 40x or stroke your LS1 to a 383. I have seen a LS1 396 kit somewhere but never seen one in a car.....

i`ve been thinking about just selling my complete engine and buying a iron lq4 and sc turboing it. But i dont know if i`d get the price i`d want. What does something like this go for?
Also what would be the average gains from a 383? Ive gotten mixed numbers from searching, ranging from 40-80hp. So im not sure what i`d expect.

Here is a link to my 393 (3.9X4.1), stock block. Motor was built almost 5 years ago and has around 25k miles on it. The dyno numbers are from just a couple weeks ago. I have only seen one or two of these setups on here, so they are pretty rare.

I bought the assembly somewhere off the internet. It is an Eagle crank and rods with Probe pistons. I think it was like $2000 shipped. Then I had a machine shop put it together. It's just a 4.1" crank instead of the 4.0". Where are you located?

It is pretty good. Sometimes I get a light bucking when it is cold going over speed bumps, but that is most likely a fueling issue I need to track down. It is smooth. I can come out of a 20mph 1-4 shift (about 850rom) with no issues. It gets great highway mpg (27-29) but pretty bad in town (14.5-15.5).

dont mean to hijack but im curious, i see that this kit is offered for a 3.905" bore size. when you do this kit if you are using a 5.7 ls1 do you have to bore the cylinders to get to this or is it new sleeves. kind of a noob question but ill never know if i dont ask. also what is the biggest bore you can go on an ls1 with stock sleeves and still be reliable? can you run this kit with the stock bore and if so what kind of power difference would it be between it and the 3.905 bore?? thank you and sorry

The 3.905 bore is based on a honed not a bored cylinder, this equates to one additional cubic inch over stock. The 4" stroke accounts for the additional 36 cubic inches = 383 ci stroker engine or 393 ci with a 4.10" crank. I think the largest cylinder bore on stock LS1 based sleeves is 3.910 which in my opinion is a last resort size (bore) to clean up scored cylinders.

P.S. Don't believe every dyno result published...all dyno's are not created equal.

they are just like that. Those stang dyno`s from what i`ve seen always dyno anywhere from 15-30hp less.

Back on topic please.

Im really not trying to go 383 cause thats a waste imo. so im trying to find the 393-6 for the cheapest price. looking all over the internet for one cheaper then the 2100. I`d be sold if i could find one for like 1900 or something.(cheap ***)haha

I wouldn't want you to waste your money on a 383,but do some research on the pro's and con's of a 4.00" stroke vs the 4.10" stroke. Give Eagle a call directly and talk to to their tech guy's...I did.
