Default 91 GTA Clone with 5.3 T56

So i pulled the trigger on a 5.3 T56 swap into my 91 Formula /GTA Clone a month ago and im about to buy the engine this Friday (5.3 L33) I chose the L33 over the LM7 for the obvious bump in power, wieght savings and heads. I just wanted to hear some suggestions from you on what sort of starter performance parts you would put into this? I'm looking for a mild 325-340 rwhp since its a semi-daily driver 9 months out of the year. Again, mild performance. I already have an idea of what to put into it but i thought some other members might have some gains i can get out of this engine that i havent thought of. Thanks!

Start by deciding on turbocharging or ordering the StainlessWorks headers from Hawks Third Gen Parts. If you go that route, you only need 1.75" primaries.

I have seen videos of 5.3's w/turbos and they are quite impressive, however i think i may stay away from boost for this swap as i dont really need it for what the car is being used for. The SW headers are on sale actually right now but for budget reasons im using stock F-body manifolds for now, i will upgrade to them in the future, i do my own fab work so i dont mind re-fab'n the exhaust a 2nd time.

Stock 5.3 longblock, LS6 cam, LS6 intake, stock T56

Should be a fun little ride making nearly the same power as a mild cammed LS1/T56

Thats what kind of combo im coming down to Pocket (you know me as 88FormulaKiller on TGO). LS6 cam swap requires matching springs correct? I do like the TR220ish cams as well. Read that over 230 is tricky to tune though.

Yes, match your springs to the cam lift. Stock springs are rated for the stock cam and barely that. The LS6 cam is a decent bump over the stocker and the old springs will bind. Luckily LS6 yellow springs are very cheap and common

About 230 @.050" is generally accepted to be as big as you want to cam a 5.3. Of course, most of the threads about it are polluted with overcammed engines that the owners say runs fine

I'm running an LM7/T-56 and it's a pretty good setup, definitely better than the 305 tbi/t-5 setup the car came with. You just can't beat the LSx platform, there is more power to be made and better mpg's in the end. I love my setup and it always opens up the door to a 6.0 later on down the road... which I do plan on doing someday. The L33 should be a nice engine to work with and make plenty of power, good luck with your swap.
