what are the odds of this engine & trans. being still good?
this car was obvisosly totaled.
what are the odds of this engine & trans. being still good?
I would like to visualley inspeact the block and trans. for cracks oil drainage from underneath. then try to turn over the crank with a breaker bar at the crank.
However the engine could be damaged internally?
I kindoff like this method (engine in car) rather than a motor on a shelf.
any tips on buying junkyard engines appreciated.
Thanks

I've taken good engines out of cars damaged much worse than that. The bellhousing being cracked from twisting to the side would be my main concern with that car. I say if the trans case looks good and it spins over with a breaker bar you'll be good to go.
A friend of mine bought an L99 drop out 3 weeks ago that looked good from the outside but was locked up. He didn't discover this until he tried to spin it over to remove the converter bolts. He gave 3500 bucks for it off the back of a truck from some random person and has no contact info. So make sure you spin that sucker over!
