Default Good drag racing cam

I'm building an '99 Trans Am A4 for the drag strip, and I've been doing some research on camshafts good for drag racing, and am just looking for confirmation before I pull the trigger. I'm thinking of going with the MS4 cam because its big, uses aggressive lobes for fast ramp rates, and makes most of its power up high where my RPM's will be most of the time. I'm looking to go with 3.73 gears and a 4000 or 4400 stall to compliment the cam. I'm sticking with stock heads for now cause of money purposes, but will eventually be getting a set.

Also, would 4.10's for 1/8th mile racing be better for an A4 than 3.73's?

Opinions? Thanks.

4:10 would be way better if all your going to run is 1/8th mile, I have heard that its not good on an od tranny for them to shift into od during w/o throttle, but I have seen cars do it. Ive got an ms4 and it has been a very good cam for me.

I'm not totally against a custom grind, I just don't know what I would go with. A proven grind would work better for me right now I think. I have seen many threads comparing the MS4 and the TRex, so I'm open to that as well. It looks like the TRex cam has more duration and less LSA, so it has more overlap; while the MS4 cam has more lift. Seeing as I'm going with stock heads for now the lift probably isn't very important cause I'll be maxing the flow of my heads out before it gets to .600" of lift anyway, so duration and overlap are probably more important, correct?

I guess now I am leaning towards the TRex cam. More input?

i have no idea what you mean by 3/4 racing cam

does the TRex have EPS lobes? If not which kind does it have. I've been searching but I can't find out. I know the duration at .006" minus duration at .05" is 49 on both lobes, so they are pretty fast ramp rates.

It's a quote from Bogey Nights I think... They are messin' with you.. As for you question, no the trex does not have eps lobes.. If you are staying with a stock style ls6 or fast intake, then I would ask Goeff @ EPS about his 234/246 or 236/248 cams he has.

The TRex is still the cam only record holder for over five years theres been different people but the same came. The Trex will give the most for your money with stock heads and a ls6 intake... this is a fact ......

awesome, that is some evidence I wanted to hear! Thank you NHRA4MULA. I'm just curious for my own purposes, what type of lobes does the TRex have?

Not sure on the lobes... But again, I would get in contact with Goeff, I believe he was the maker of the TREX cam before he started EPS.

G5X4 from LG Motorsports. Its on the cam only list several times. Im a cam only car and thats what i run.. I also ran 4.11s with my 4L60 last season with a Circle D 5k stall and i never had to shift into OD. Car ran 10.80s with 1.4X 60s all day. What do you think the weight of the car will be?

the interior is completely stripped, going with a mini-tub, and im removing all unnecessary weight I can think of. However I'll be adding a roll cage and subframes. I don't know where that will put me but I'll be weighing the car when its all said and done.

contact Thunder Racing they are a sponser on here and they will give you all the info you need ...they also have dyno numbers on there site for this cam in a stock engine and if you look up cam only in the dyno section or drag racing section you can see all the cars that run it with track numbers/times and if you go to you tube and type in TREX CAM you can here it on there I think there is like 10 or more cars with it ...
