Gen 5 Camaro External Bolt-On Tech - 2010 Camaro owners. What do you dislike about it?

What do you dislike about the new Camaro? Do you think it is worth the money performance wise over everything on the market? Such as the new 5.0 Challenger etc.. I don't want arguiments just some FACTS..

Performance wise yes. It IMO has a lot more potential and wakes up with a few mods.

What do I dislike?

20" wheels with big brembos standard on the ss. They should offer a v6 brake option for cheaper.

More options but less packages. Its hard to get only what you want.

Some sort of gear option would of gone a long way too IMO.

Oh and the paint quality sucks. At least it did for the first years. It chips like a mofo.

yes the paint sucks, but they are supposed to use a different paint now or soon. also, the sun visors are useless, besides that the car is a very nice and comfortable ride. It gets a lot of attention and can be woken up quite easily. Drives more like a Cadillac than a 4th gen, nice and quiet.

What needs "wokin up" I know changing the exhuast on my Formy really helped. What key parts of the LS3 are slugish and need replacing?

Weighs too much and it's a little too big. Exhaust is too quiet. Needs a performance gear option.

Everything else is full of win!

I see them around all the time :engarde:

-way too quiet, but has true duals at least
-v-sis,rs,ss all look the same to average people. "another new camaro everyone! look!"
-no live axle
-ugly from the rear IMO. looks like the engine could be back there like a ferrari 360
-LS3 comes to life with intake, lts, cat back(more for sound as the stock is pretty straight foward), and a tune
-still too heavy. 3900+ i think compared to 4th gen 3400=3500

list goes on. Point is for that money you can have a really quick 3rd or 4th gen. then again, in new cars everything works real nice like

engine is fine where its sits .no need to move it . i own a 94 lt1 bird
engine compartment .very tight .. as far as weight ..is concerned the camaro
is 300 lbs lighter than the challenger . when my money is "right " im going to
get a new camaro im having too much of a love hate thing with my 94 bird
the new car makes the previous car look downright old.

Biggest complaint is it's too heavy.Could lose 400lbs.

Performance wise - they like headers and cold air setup's.Then of course tuning to get rid of the TM ect.

The weight is the big issue with me. I am not a fan of removing interior and lot's of the other bs to make it faster.
How is the handling on the camaro? I know my Formy was a nose diver in corners but some sub frames and a strut brace tightened her up very nice..

Dislikes- Visibility for sure but you get used to it.. Paint is looking questionable so far.

Likes...everything else. (especially the performance) It matches my h/c 98 in the acceleration department and it only has bolt ons. Handling is by far superior to my 98 z-28 and the ride quality is phenomenal. A set of springs and swaybars sends the handling performance sky high from what I have read.

My combined mpg for the past 3 months has been 18.7 and hasnt moved. I dont think I have driven the car once and not mashed the pedal. I dont beat the piss out of the car....but I would say I drive it like most people would drive a sports car. My driving is probably about 50/50 city and highway.

My highway mpg is around 23-24 last time I checked on a long trip.

Weight is another disadvantage...the 1SS M6 is 3849 stock. I have removed the entire factory exhaust system and have aftermarket...I should be close to 3800 even with a full tank. and near 3700 with a 1/8th tank. But I weigh 235...so I am not helping anything.

GM curb weight for the 2SS m6 is listed at 3860 per GM. 1SS is at 3849 from what I can gather.

2SS A6 is 3910 I believe.

Curb weight is with a full tank and all fluids (ready to drive)

Your A6 2SS stock would not be 3849 with a full tank. A full tank of gas is worth about ~100 lbs. (depending on tank size). The curb weight is 3900-3910 for an A6 2SS.

Performance is awesome IMO, no complaints there. It would be nice if it was a little lighter but I can live with the weight.

Downside is that it's hard to launch in stock form with IRS and 20" rims. Pirelli's suck IMO. I wish there was a gear option from the factory. My biggest annoyance is no memory seat, that really pisses me off for a brand new $36K car.

Other than that I have no complaints and the car has amazed me at the strip and on the street.

You're right. I weighed my car bone stock with 1/2 tank and it was 3860.

But, its 3680 now with a half tank.

couple ?s on the new 010 camaro

1. what are the rear end gear ratio? and is this a weak rear end like the 4th gen. cars are know for?

2.do A6 and manuel cars have the same gear ratio?

3.what doe's first gear feel like on an A6 car meaning is it tall like the 4th gen.
A4, like whats the MPH before it shifts into second? and is it a smooth shift?

4.when cruising on the expressway about 75-80MPH what are the RPMs on an A6 and a manuel?

I'm considering a 2010 camaro just looking for feedback.

Thanks

The SS M6 cars come with a 3.45 ratio and the SS A6 have 3.27 ratio. IMHO, the rears on these cars are just strong enough to handle the stock power. The relatively small housing, means that if you want to re-gear it you are going to end up with a tiny pinion. There are a ton of guys who've put 4.10's in and then proceed to strip the teeth right off. You can do stuff to strengthen, but some feel it's just a band aid. I've not driven the A6 yet, so I can't answer all your questions on that. The 3.45 geared M6 will turn approx. 1700 rpm at 75mph.

Mine weighed 4015lb with headers, exhaust, intake, 1/4 tank of gas and my fat 240lbs weight. So the 3800 is about right. My old 99 weighed 3650lb with me and a 5 point bar.

Car also ran 12.5 at 111mph with the above - A6 tranny.

The car handles very good and the brakes are lightyears ahead of the older f-body's.

my 02 is a fatty at 3650, with me in it and i believe a full tank.. my buddy's 5th gen weighed 4050 with me in it, and a full tank i think. dont remember gas levels to be completely sure. no weight reduction to either car, his being a 2SS M6.

racing from a 50 roll, we were pretty much DEAD even up until about 115 or so.. after that we both cut out, havent raced since. It leads me to believe the weight difference between him and I could just make the race if we were to switch cars.. just a little info.

and the gas cap.

all i can complain about i knew about the weight and the IRS the car handles better with it its just not a drag ready car. but o well other than that this car is amazingly better than any other camaro gm came out with..

oh..the size....i wish they would of come out still sleek but much smaller...they are huuuuuuuuge. but i love it..

one last peeve would be the rear speakers are bare so if you were to overload that big ol trunk space you mite mess up a wite or rub the speakers...not cool.

awe the boobs at GM stirch again w/ a weak rear end gotta love them.

What do you mean by weak rear??

I haven't really heard of any rear axle/diff issues with the 2010 Camaros. They are very strong in stock form.

If you're referring to the gear ratios, shorter gears do not make the car any faster. They just lower fuel economy, increase parasitic loss, and make for more shifting and higher RPM on the highway. With the huge powerband and excellent torque of the LS3, there is no need for shorter gears. The car pulls like an animal in any gear at virtually any RPM.

Now if only they weighed about 300lbs less, they would be best in class in handling and acceleration. Damn these newer cars with their 10 air bags and 20" wheels. You can't single out the Camaro for that either, its accross the board - Challenger, Mustang, Nissan GTR, ect. are all close to 4,000lbs.

Supposedly the next gen Camaro on the new smaller platform will be much smaller and weigh much less. Couple that with an 6 speed, V8, IRS, and Brembo brakes and it should be a winner from the start.
