Appearance & Detailing - The FIRST (and currently only) 6LE CARBON FIBER Firebird Splitter!

First, a HUGE thank you to Mark (6LE) for making this splitter and helping me out with a couple problems I ran into. He's a real stand-up guy, and I will definitely be buying from him again.
I like the way 6LE splitters look on Firebirds, but I wanted one in carbon fiber for a racier, high-quality look. I got in touch with Mark, and he gave me a couple different options. He recommended making the splitter a little thicker than the ABS plastic version, so we went with that. It took a little while to get made, but it was well worth the wait!
Here's a pic of the carbon weave:

And here's the splitter on the car:

I painted the hardware and spacers flat black:

I have the splitter adjusted about as far forward as it can go to clear the front tires. It doesn't extend too far past the bumper though:

If it's any consolation, your car inspired me to get the splitter in the first place.
Wow, that looks a million times better than the black one! I thought about having one of 6LE's splitters hydrocoated (cheating, I know), but it was just too much $$$ for the whole thing.

Mark,
Is it thicker than the plastic?
Actually, no. It is thinner but molded to have a rolled down lip to be stronger and look thicker. That's how they make them for a lot of higher end cars so that is what we did...
This way it is PURE CF (no added material for thickness) so it is light but still strong.

How much would one run for a Camaro in CF?

The car's lowered, so I already don't drive it over speed bumps or other scrape hazards. The splitter's only like 1/4" thick, so it's not too much lower than the the bumper was before.

Oh I was mainly saying that because it sticks out further than the front of the bumper. But if you don't go over an hazards it's all good :D

I've got a better idea. Replicate this hood in fiberglass:

...and I'll get a shaker airbox ;)

when the heck did that hood become available? Any pics of it on a car? me likey...i think
I was gonna say...cf splitter, hood, and targa tops....if it were me...i don't know if I'd do the spoiler, but if I did...I'd paint the supports the body color leaving only the wing itself CF. Then start hydrodipping the interior for the same CF weave. man I wish I had some loot to throw down right now! Oh...and if anyone says rice...:punch:

Love the splitter! But I think that because it's sometimes not possible to avoid a scrape situation, Carbon Fiber is FAR too costly for me to put in suck a high risk area. At MOST i'd wrap a splitter. Looks fabulous tho!

I don't know when that hood became available. It's made by ViS. It costs $1100 and requires hood pins.
Why hydrodip interior parts? I remember seeing a thread where you can send parts to 6LE to get them wrapped in real CF.

yeah...if the fit was perfect...maybe $1100...i'm still stuck with my sleek beek hating life..but can't justify so much money on an apprearance mod when there are so many other things to do.
I'd still like to see that hood on a car....hood pins are no big deal
I didn't know 6LE was wrapping the parts in CF...i need a fatter wallet!

I hear ya...and I do think on a black car it'd be sick....any other color and it just doesn't flow right...still cool nonetheless.
The thing with cf is you either need a ton of it, or none of it...the side splitters and canards are CF on the ZR1 too i believe as well as the front splitter
Maybe that should be the next step for Skorpion..cf side splitters and canards, then follow up with cf rear diffuser
I know I would rock that setup...no questions asked!

A CF diffuser will be added, but I'm going with T/A side skirts to match the T/A rear bumper.

I considered the side splitters, but I already bought the T/A side skirts.
To finish off the appearance mods (at least until I decide on a hood), I snagged an SLP IROC spoiler off of eBay a couple months ago.

I'm sure I could put the the side splitters on the T/A side skirts, but it would probably look out of place.

I don't see why it couldn't be used in a road race application. You would have to check the rules for the specific class you want to run in though.
On my car, it's basically just eye candy.

No rules apply, I wanna know if it is functional or just for looks. I will HPDE and trackday my new car.

Yes, it's functional. It smoothes the airflow going underneath the car, increasing downforce on top of the car. It feels more stable at high speeds. Also, the splitter helps channel more air to the radiator, so the car doesn't run as hot.
