Default Hood release doesn't work....

A friend of mine contacted me last night saying his hood release "was stuck." After a few minutes, over the phone, it seems the inside release doesn't work. He's bringing the car over this morning to see what we can figure out. I don't know this car. Is there anything special I need to look for? I'm hoping the cable popped off at the release. I don't really want to be crawling under the car to get behind the bumper. Thanks for any help you guys can provide.

UPDATE: It turned out that there was no grease on the release spring. A little bit of lube, and the hood pops without a problem. I'm glad I didn't have to tear anything apart.

Dont see any logic behind lube fixing your problem, but at least you fixed it.

I need to try some grease on mine. I was at HRP in Houston and wanted to let my engine bay cool off between runs and my damn hood release wasnt working.

I had this issue and to get it open have someone push down on the hood while you pull the lever. I just had to adjust the hood stoppers down a few turns so it wasnt pushing against the release so hard.

....if you suspect your hood lever will fail soon, i strongly suggest you change the release cable. it comes complete, and is very easy to change if the hood is already open.
