Default Rusty Comp Cam from StreetSide Auto

I had planned to install the new cam in my LQ9 today. When I opened the Comp Cam package, I discovered the cam was rusty. It is rusty enough that I can feel the pits with my fingernail, so I have to send it back.

This is particularly annoying because now I can't measure and order my pushrods tomorrow which will delay the project more.

On the bright side, the valve spring tool from Tim is doing the job. So, can finish that portion of the show today.

I contacted Streetside Auto today about the rusty camshaft. They said they will be sending out a Fed Ex pickup label today. They also said that a soon as they have confirmation that the item is pickup up, they will send out another immediately so that I have as little delay as possible. I am very pleased with their response.

Storing them indoors extends the shelf life considerably.

It would be nice to see a picture of what this cam looked like when you received it, speedtigger. New Comp cams have some rust protection applied by Comp.

Nice looking 'lark!

I am the Customer Service Manager at StreetSideAuto.com and we are not sure what happened to this cam but I defected out and spoke to the OP. He said it was sealed from Competition Cams like that. We have worked hard to earn the reputation we have and I apologized for the issue.

BTW We have warehouses that our parts are stored in .

Did you get the return label? Please let me know.

I sent the new cam out of my GA warehouse Next Day Air. I am not sure if they can still get it out tonight or not, but worst case you will have it Thursday.

Thanks for your understanding.

Yes, it certainly is. They also called me yesterday to let me know that the Camshaft went out 2nd day delivery service.

I must say, I was in the automotive business for 20 years. The only way a company can deliver this kind of service consistently is to have systems and procedures in place to make that happen. When you combine good systems and procedures with exceptional individual effort, you have just this type of customer service. Most impressive so far.

The best laid plans of mice and men................. Fed Ex has lost the cam somewhere between Tennessee and Florida. They are trying to find it now. LOL

This just took a bizarre turn. I called Fed Ex for the 3rd time trying to get an answer as to where this camshaft is. They said that the camshaft was lost, then found with a missing label at which time it was sent to their lost and found department. The lost and found department opened the package, saw the manufacturer and sent it to Comp Cams in Tennessee.

I asked them why they sent it to Comp Cams and not back to StreetSide Auto and she said this is due to an agreement with Comp Cams that any packages found with their brand on it would be shipped to them.

So, I will call Jaimie at StreetSide now and see what he thinks of this Melee.

Man, don't you just hate it when this sort of thing happens, unimaginably frustrating.

Here is a update. I called Streetside. Jamie was not there so I spoke with Mike. Mike said he has never heard of this before. So, obviously this is no agreement that Streetside has with Fed Ex as the Fed Ex representative had suggested.

Since they were sending it to Comp Cams, I called Comp customer service and spoke to Tommy. I told him about the situation and he said this type of thing has happened before although he did not say that he was aware of any special agreement as suggested by Fed Ex. Tommy and I looked at the tracking number to see that the camshaft was not due to get to them until the 22nd. So, he could not send it to me until he received it.

Next I called Fed Ex to tell them that I had spoken to my vendor who did not desire to have the camshaft sent to the third party, Comp Cams. And, I spoke to Comp Cams about the mix up and there was no reason for them to be involved (although Tommy at Comp was nice enough to say that he would inspect the unit for any shipping damage when it arrives and send an undamaged unit if it was). I was told by the Fed Ex representative Eric that the "agent" assigned to the transaction would call me to tell me what they could do. He said it would be within 2 hours. I told them that Comp Cams would be closing before that and I needed faster action so that any necessary communication could happen today. Eric told me that Fed Ex was not capable of responding faster than 2 hours.

So, my suspicion is that Fed Ex will not call me back. I will have to call them back. The camshaft will end up meandering it's way to Comp Cams on Monday, who will then ship it to me.

The likely end result is that the camshaft that Jamie sent next day will be lucky to get here in a week.
