Who has a crack in the firewall by the clutch master cylinder?
Title says it all. When I was installing my new turn signal flasher today, I notice I have a crack in the firewall where the clutch master cylinder attaches. I've hear about this before, and I'm wondering how common it really is.
I have a Tick MC installed for about two years now, and I KNOW it wasn't there when I installed it.

About three years ago I paid a speed shop to convert my A4 TA into a M6.
My clutch felt soft and after checking I found the master had a leak & I paid to have a Trick shift master installed/ night and day difference .
So now to the present...my clutch seemed to be light , but not all the time. After checking , it had a slight leak . After my brother and I remove it is when I found the firewall cracked and how the company I paid to do the install butchered the firewall and did not install the backing plate. ( even though they have done numerous conversion ). So I am now making two plates , 16ga sheet metal ( one on the inside and one for the out ) . Right now I have it bolted in with grade 8 bolts washers / I use the mug welder on the edges later.

One draw back to the large bore master cylinders is the extra effort it takes to release the clutch. That can contribute to this problem. Extra bracing might be a good idea for Tick and Mcleod to consider offering.

You know, Ford also had this problem with their manual trans trucks. They developed a brace that flat cured it. If it cracks, and you don't fix it, you could have one helluva mess after a period of time.
