Default LQ4 with 243/799

Anyone do this swap and not have to fly cut? I milled the 317s i have now .030 and had .110 or so clearance, but with the smaller chambers will i have to flycut with the Trex? I am just trying to get prepared as i will be checking anyway when i get some of the LS2/6 casings.

Out of the box you would have the same clearance as a stock 317 head. Lots of people have put these on without flycutting. I would imagine with the Trex you would not be able to mill the heads at all if you don't want to flycut. Keep in mind just because the chamber starts smaller does not mean there is less clearance.

That is what i heard man, any idea of what compression i will have with the stock LQ4 with the stock MLS gaskets on the 243 castings? I am sure it wont be 10.5 or anything, but over 10 to 1 would be great.

Oh yea, if my 317s are milled with no PTV issues, the 243s couldnt be milled as well with the same result then?

I don't think it would work. I was told not to mill my 241s to more than 61cc or they wouldn't clear. I think we did .020 and that is with a Torquer V2.

I could have been fed false info, but I believe a stock LQ4 with stock 243 heads and a .040 gasket is 10.0:1 anyway.

I would like to mill them ,030 to get as much compression as i can, the Trex needs it.

i flycut with similar milling with a smaller cam....so i'd say no milling at all.

You guys are forgetting that a stock lq4 piston has a .050"-some thousandths dish, this is no different than a valve relief.

Your 243's milled .030" will clear with more clearance than a stock head with a flat top piston, and still yield a higher compression.
This is probably the only advantage to a dished piston in an n/a application.
