Default It's time to pick a cam....

Now that we have a couple of reliable SUV's on the drive way my Trans Am will finally be the weekend cruiser I've always wanted it to be.
The problem is I have no idea what cam to pick, even after being into these cars for ten years!

Last year I swapped to 243's and an LS6 intake, this winter it's time for a cam. This car has been my daily driver for 3 years...and I saved the cam for last because we needed to get some reliable daily drivers.
With LT's, and my current mods I want this car to be at 415-430whp. Streetability isn't really a concern... What are some good choices?

I have a ms4 in my m6 ,I love it but my tune is spot on,going with a bigger cam you will get a lil bucking and low rpms and some surging, more or less depending on what your tuner can do,I'm planning on a higher gear to help the very lil bucking it has, overall though for beeing a big cam car it runs pretty good on the street,I wouldn't want to dd it but I could if I wanted to,it really all depends on what your looking for out of the car,ms4 makes good power and screams up top,the ms3 is a good cam also and might be just a lil better manners on the street, with all the cam choices out now I wouldn't limit your self to the ms cams, eps makes killer cams,or you could have pat g spec you a custom cam for your setup, since you all ready have 243s you'll make pretty good power ,I would call texas speed and a few other sponsers on here just to get some ideas ,I did a lot of research before I made my choice I suggest you do the same, the last thing you wanna do is install a cam and wish you had something diffrent in there, take care buddy,God bless

I'm happy with my MS3 haven't taken it to the track or dyno yet to see the difference on paper but you can feel it when you drive it. Plus in my exp. TSP and ws6store have never given me shipping issues or wrong parts showing up like Thunder Racing. Not saying everyone has the same issues but can't say I have had any good exp. With them, after the 3rd time I stopped ordering from them. When.I.order parts I need them all to arrive toghter not weeks apart.

A gear swap can be done... if needed, I was hoping to blow the rear end first.. the exhaust is the stock WS6 exhaust.
A custom cam might be what I'm looking for? I'll have to call around. Thanks for all the examples, I'm going to research every one of them and pick one by Christmas. That way I can put it on my list

The 243's are a good head and most cams will do will with them. If you take the car to a shop that knows Ls engines, 420-430rwhp is easily possible with most off the shelf cams that are out there today. Anything from a 224-240 range. If you really want something that is specific to your needs tho, then speak to a sponsor so you dont end up disappointed. Are you really going to just read some guy's random cam spec post and say, "yes, this one looks good and he said it is, so it has to be." No, you decide from fact and knowledgeable people's opinions. Sorry for the rant, just trying to shed light to why people would want random members to decide the camshaft that is right for their engine when none of these people know anything about your goals with the car or what you want, only you know that. Good luck with your choice either way

Yeah I agree we can all say what we run or like but it could be night and day for what your looking for,if its gonna be more of a street car you want something that will really give you a good power range,I like big cams but they need taller gears period, with stock gears my ms4 isn't all that in the lower rpms,I'm gonna run 4.56 gears and that should help to get it into the higher rpms faster, your gonna get the best advice from a sponser, tsp was very helpful in my choice,I must have called them 3 or 4 times with diffrent ideas and they will take all the time in the world to make sure you get what your looking for.just start thinking down the road for what you would like to do,like gears, nitrious, etc so you can get a cam that will really improve when the budget comes up for future mods.good luck man and happy turkey day to all you guys ! God bless

IRONFIST, off topic, but how do you like that xe274? been eyeing it for my 350HO. i'm sure it'd act a bit different with 50 less cubes though.

it seems like a popular choice these days....
