Dynamometer Results & Comparisons - EPS 222/226 gains 50rwhp on stock 241 heads!!

I was at 345hp/354tq with the headers. I figured with the cam I'd be at 370hp or so, and wishing as high as 380hp. I never expected 395rwhp/375tq with my factory 241 heads!!

For those interested, I'm posting the graph with the overlays, showing the progression from near stock. In case you can't read my writing, it goes like this:

Runfile 1) 324h/336t cai & Corsa catback
Runfile 11) 345h/354t Kooks LTs Kooks, catted Y, CNC ported TB, tune by Ellis at Speedsecrets.
Runfile 13) 363h/347t EPS 222/226 113 before re-tuning
Runfile 17) 394h/376t After tune again by Ellis at Speedsecrets.

I am VERY happy to say the least!

Thanks again to Ellis for the great job with both the road tune and yesterday's Dyno peak. And special thanks to Cam's wife who let Cam come in on his day off to run the Dyno at Marysville Speed!!

Good gains. Sounds similar to my first EPS cam. It was pretty small, just 218/226. Gained 45rwhp (A4) and drove like stock.

After 2 months, I went much bigger...

I knew you would be in the 390's. That's awesome power. Patrick and Geoff were spot on number wise w/ my cam verses your cam. 5-8 HP difference. Not much of a difference. Congrats on the outcome and I hope to meet you this next summer!

What kind of numbers would the torquer 2 cam make in comparison to this one? Not trying to hijack, just trying to compare... They obviously have their stuff down with those cam setups!

Awesome numbers! Ive got this same cam but on a 115 lsa along with a set of 243's waiting to go in my LS1. Makes me even more anxious. :)

Great numbers on stock 241 heads

I'm at 430 rwhp mark with the same cam but 115 LSA with PRC 5.3 .. but with aggressive bolt-ons ( chrs1313 ram air , FTP 104mm, TSP 100mm MAF, Ported FAST 92, TSP 1 7/8, TSP ORY ) and great tune ..

I'm gonna upgrade to electrical water pump and truck coil and post the final result :D .. forgot to mention it idles like stock :D

Very nice!!! I wish I got a good tuner like that locally.

Bene I know you have HPTuners .. PM me if you need any help .. :D

WOW! Those are great numbers. This relight the fire under my butt to get a new starter.

I have the same cam but on a 114 LSA with 243 heads but stock exhaust manifolds and SLP LM1

Great #'s man! How is the drivability?

Drivability with this size of a cam is awesome. I've got the EPS 226/230 on a 114lsa and it drives really nice. No cam surge, idles nice and pulls like a beast at 2500 up to 6700.

It is threads like this that make me realize how bad I need to do a cam swap... What other "supporting" mod brands did you go with? (lifters, springs, rods, etc.)

*02WS6TURK*
12-04-2010, 09:32 AM
The Pac 1518 are good springs to go with. Upgrade to a LS2 timing chain, chromolly hardened pushrods and a new oil pump. Lifters I would only swap out if you have high miles.

How is the drivability?

My wife & I went for a drive today, and I've been thinking about the driveability. Conclusion: I think there has been a give & take. We have done thousands of miles of road trips in this car. I doubt we will anymore. The drone is too annoying. Yes it sounds awesome from outside. But inside, once you're underway, trying to talk and listen to the radio...it's a bit annoying.

It pulls like crazy. I got on my favorite freeway on-ramp today, a long sweeping 70mph curve, it actually spooked me as I merged into traffic at 90mph! I didn't even floor it!

But, coasting at low speeds, low rpm, like in a parking lot or down hill, it tends to jerk a bit, making me downshift, where I didn't have to before.

Finally, I installed an MGW shifter at the same time I put this cam in. I'm sorry, but 6th gear is a PAIN to hit with this shifter.

So yeah, I can be hyped about the numbers and SOTP pull, but there WAS a comfort factor trade off. No, I'm not putting the factory manifold back on any time soon!:D

Did he give you the SAE numbers as well? Just what you see on the graph. Can it be calculated?

What other "supporting" mod brands did you go with? (lifters, springs, rods, etc.)
I let Geoff guide me here. Yes, Pac 1518 springs, Trickflow PRs, Hardened Timing chain (single row). That's it. same oil puimp & lifters.

When you say jerking a low rpm, exactly how low are we talking about? You should not be jerking or surging with that cam over 800 rpm. Could be that the tune is not as spot on as it could be. Are you still running O2 sensors?

I'm not sure how accurate the tach is down there. All I know is that it's surging a bit at low rpms where it didn't used to. Yes, the O2s are connected. It's all still new (Cam & tune) so I can always take it back to the tuner if need be.

It's probably got a little cam surge. Also some 4.10's might make it drive a little easier. Maybe consider a magnaflow cat back. Your corsa is loud. My magnaflow really hinders the sound. I could drive this thing comfortably for long periods of time with no issues. Then again I do have some extra weight over your camaro which I have found helps out with rattles / sounds making it a little easier to drive distance / comfort wise.

I had a shitty tune, and it surged and buck like a mofo on mine too. Good thing I have HPTuners, I mended that problem. No more surge or bucking at low speeds or stop and go traffic.

I lowered the idle speed w/ proper timing/fuel adj. to give it more a little lope. (730 w/o ac and 775 w/ ac.)

I went ahead and paid FROST to retune my car so I can have a proper tune.

thats funny where is everyone that says they have 0 surge and bucking on their MS4 and TRex. perhaps you have some advise for this guy :eyes:

like turk says a steeper gear will help with the surge.

then you gotta worry about the rear exploding.

Killer number thru cats and a baby cam! Those eps lobers are amazing!! Hell you made the same power as a ms3 car in this section lol. I would go back to the tuner tho...imo that cam should drive like stock once its properly tuned!

Tuning is a big factor in whether a cam surges or not. It's not just all about what cam you have.

Tuning is a big factor in whether a cam surges or not. It's not just all about what cam you have. That is a baby cam. If it's bucking or surging at all, then it means that there is more work to be done with the tune. Yes, a T-Rex and MS4 can be tuned to have very little bucking and surging when tuned by a pro. Your's should be cake.

Did I just get a QFT from Pat G? :lol:LOL, I meant to add a +1 after your quote. I agree 100% with what you said...a good tune can make a big cam drive like a small one and a bad tune can make a small cam drive like a big one. I think the OP is experiencing the latter.

I was wondering why you quoted me and then didn't address anything in my post.

I always find it funny how people praise their tuner, yet have some "issues" after the tune. Obviously it wasn't as great as they thought, more reason to take it to a big name who has a (good rep). I think a lot of it comes down to people just seeing Xhp/tq gains and seeing the manners from an untuned car vs a tuned car. Just because someone can tune, doesn't mean they are good at it.

I really hate you now WSsick. lol

You hated me before? :(

If Ellis can't tune your car, take it to Tom Wong in Vancouver. Hands down the best tuner in the NW. He tuned my EPS cam W/ no issues.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Ellis & I spent a lot of time on the initial road tune before the dynotune. I didn't notice the low rpm surging until later. I'm sure Ellis will stand by his work and deal with that as well when I point it out.

So Todd... Magnaflow is quieter than Corsa? My Corsa is supposed to have the famous "drone canceling technology" :-) I guess it only works up to a point... Oh and I've had the 4.11 gear for the last 2 yrs, since I put on the headers. I love it!

The Magnaflow is way more quiet. A local guy just stopped by my house w/ my same cam running through a Corsa catback, unbelievable how much louder his car is over mine. I think you would be really happy making the switch. Magnaflow is the only system I will run. I hate loud cars.
