Rebuild my 383 stroker or start over???
My Camaro dropped a valve and blew a piston and my block out of commission. This was 3 YEARS ago! I got so frustrated with it and spending money on the car, it's been sitting since. 98 Camaro, 383 Stroker, Thunder Racing cam, ported heads, LS6 Intkae, Full exhaust, 3200 stall, etc etc.
1 piston is destroyed, the block is toast, one of my heads is a gonner. I had decked and ported heads on the stroker. I have a stock pair of heads as well, but I'd have to get them ported to use on a rebuild......
What is the best way to go about getting her running again? I have a daily driver, so I am no longer looking to go stock at all in the Camaro as an option. Buy a shortblock, a longblock?
Rebuild what I have with a stock block and go that route? What do you all think is the best affordable option? I am sure after sitting in my garage for 3 years I'll have all kinds of issues with it.
TIA!

I would recommend trying to get an LQ4 or LQ9 iron block and start from there. They are pretty easy to find these days for good prices and they have a lot of potential. Depending on the shape of your crank and rods you could pretty easily carry those over and get some pistons for a 408 c.i motor. I think that would be one of the most affordable options to getting the car going while picking up some extra power.

Here is what I had for the 383 assembly off my invoice......
1 LS1 4.00 Eagle LS1 forged crankshafts
1 6.200 Rods H-beam Eagle 4340 6.200 Rod
1 14230 Probe LS1 FT 4.0 stroke, 6.2 rod
1 1.5/1.5/3mm File Fit rings, 1.5, 1.5, 3mm
1 ms2199h Clevite Main Bearings for Ls1
1 cb663h Clevite SBC 2.10 H-series competition bearings
If I can score a block cheap and rebuild from there that is what I'll do. I just know I need heads to match the motor and all kinds of smaller miscellaneous parts. And with one of my ported heads getting smashed up it's not gonna be cheap. It's gonna add up fast. I would like to have the car back going by Spring time, just trying to find the best way about it since it's now just my play car and I;m not dependant on it.

You can resuse your crankshaft no problem. You will have to find a piston to match up with the 6.200 rod length you have. From there I would get some new bearings and get the motor put together. You should be able to find some used iron blocks for good prices, I think ebay is a great place to start looking.
Thanks for the input man. What is needed to change the 383 assembly I have to a 408?
