Default TEA 1.5s

I found a set for my car, but am i likely to have PTV issues with the truck 5.3 heads? Wonder what the compression will be as well.

LOL. How about giving a cam size first? They typically do not mill the 5.3's unless you ask them to.

I ran a small cam 226/230 .598/.600 112 +2 and had to fly cut with those heads.

Trex, i didnt have to fly cut with the milled 317s on my LQ4, but i have no idea the difference in valve height.

So, the 317 and the 243/799 castings have the same valve height stock, unmilled, but the 5.3 castings do not?

The main reason you cleared a Trex was because your LQ4 has a 7 or 8cc dish.......

Been running 5.3 stage 1.5 TEA heads milled down to 59 CC chambers and using a thin Cometic .040 head gasket running a 224/228 .581/.588 110+0 LSA without fly cuting for the last 100,000 miles ... great heads ..

I know, i am oping that the LQ4 pistons would allow me to use the TEA 1.5 5.3 heads as well, i am trying to make sure before i get pissed if i am not able to get away without fly cutting, the valves them selves will cost me .030 as is if they are milled .030 already, the truck head is smaller as is though right? I think i will be ok, but the fear in me wants more in sight, LOL.

Sounds like you got luckier than I did.

After talking to Geoff at EPS he said that TEA drops the intake valve to help flow. When or what heads they did this on I don't know. I am just glad I checked and didn't slap them on and go.

A Trex is NOT going to fit under those heads without cutting at least an .080 relief.

I think I cut .080-.090 from mine. Good thing I didn't run a huge cam. I would have to cut threw the damn piston!

Nice. That gives me hope that my 62cc and 226/230 cam won't have PTV issues.

So, even since i have .110 right now with milled 317s .030, i will still have to fly cut then? That kind of doesnt make it worth it, i need someone that has run the LQ4 with these heads to chime in.

I took mine to a machinist/head guy and had him measure valve drop. Both he and TEA said that anything above 228 on the intake would probably require flycutting

Assuming this was on a FT engine right? My dish pistons give me room.

Yea, LS1 pistons are flat tops, mine being dished helps me, but also, is there a chance i might be OK with the thickest head gasket i can find? I am worried too much because i will also be spraying the motor and valve reliefs in a motor that did not have them stock makes me worry about the fly cuts giving way to a thin spot that can burn through possible, i am just not sure.
