Default How do I get this off!

Take a look at these rims, anyone know how to clean this crap off, I can have a repair shop sand them and recoat them but they wanna charge 160 a rim, is there some kind of cleaner or something? rims are off an 2001 Vette, and is there a way to take off the symbol in the center cap ? or maybe find a new center cap to fit?

I think the $160 a rim is high, i was quoted $50-$75 a rim to have them powdercoated. Maybe $100 a wheel tops, but beyond that, i can buy new painted wheels for a tad more than the cost of coating. At the price you are being quoted, you are better off buying new wheels from OE Wheels, and using your current set as storage wheels, or selling them to a northerner to use as storage wheels for when our cars hibernate.

If they are polished and not chrome, then take a wire wheel on a grinder, and give them a satin brushed finish.

The clear coat is damaged. Go buy some Aircraft coating stripper and just strip the clear coat off. Then you can polish the bare aluminum to a nice shine.

If they are clearcoated like suggested above then they are correct, now will just be more maintenance to keep the polished look, but properly polished rims look as nice or nicer than chrome.
