Whats the purpose of deleting the MAF
IM building an ls2 d1sc in my 68 camaro.. and ive noticed when prople do forced induction thet get rid of the MAF sensor.. What is the bennifit of this? what should i do on my build. thanks

The MAF system just allows for modeling the airflow and predicting the airflow. If you want better street acceleration and street drivability try to make the MAF work.

MAF Systems run a lot better. SD is a cheap way to go and you will loose a lot of the adaptives in the calibration. A GM SD calibration is better than a Carb setup. It is better in most cases than an aftermarket EFI setup.

If they "run a lot better" you may need to brush up on your SD tuning skills. You need a custom OS with a boosted setup to work to the controller's fullest ability. Many people who have run both will flatly tell you that they like the SD better because the engine is more responsive without waiting on a MAF's wire to transition. You get the 'snap' of a well tuned carb setup.

The MAF is an accurate measuring device. Speed density is an approximation all the way that relies on tables to tell the motor what to do. Which one do you think works better? If speed density is so good why did both GM and Ford in the early years move away from it? GM went MAF to speed density back to MAF. Ford went speed density to MAF. The only reason that GM went SD in the early years was because the MAF's had a high failure rate. Anybody that tells you that SD works better is doing so because they don't want to spend the time to tune the transitional responses of the power adders by the same tolken I cannot believe that one or two iterations on a SD only tune will give you a good tune.

You are also saying that running a 1.6-1.9 power enrichment ratio that looks like the rocky mountains is better then just commanding what you want commanded and adjusting the ve so you get there?
I stand behind my SD has its place comment.

The MAF has an upper limit of 512g/sec which is hardcoded in the pcm, much easier to do a 2 bar SD custom operating system then to try and workaround a hardcoded limitation. There have been several discussions regarding this over the years on this forum as well as our own.
