Default What heads should I be running?

I've never thought to ask this question.. Not sure why..

I'm running a PatG Tq Cam at 224/228 .637 .639 110+0 with Patriot Dual Gold VS's. I have notice that the new PRC 215 heads are flowing right up there with TFS 215's.. They're actually showing that they flow a smidge higher, if not right dead nuts on.

But anyway.. What heads would work best with this cam? I'm running P+P'd LS6 heads now and how much of a gain do you think would be seen with better flowing low lift # heads?

I'd say some AFR 205's would be the best in terms of low end power and torque.

^ Would some 215's or 225's lose port velocity? Too big? I wish I could find a set of bare AFR 205's. I'd prolly have to make some calls when I get the money read to drop for em.

I just bought a set of used AFR 205's that I haven't put on yet; actually been thinking about selling them and just going the cam/intake route for now until I get the car paid off. They have been milled down to 62cc and were pressure tested and cleaned up by a machine shop before I bought them. They'd kick *** with the cam you have. As far as the 215 or 225's being too big; I'd say the 215's would be ok, but deffinately not the 225's. I think you would loose some port velocity even with the 215's as opposed to the 205's, but probably not too much.

Those 225's are prolly a bit big for a 346 anyway..

Those PRC heads really caught my eye though.. 0_o Right up there with TFS, if not nearly identical. Just not a 13.5* valve angle.

Any other ideas? I'll set my mind on the AFR 205's if I get enough of a solid backing on them for this cam.

I'll also be doing a 96mm PP Typhoon intake with 42# injectors (Unless I find a killer deal on a FAST in the same price range as the PP.)

I'm pretty sure the 224/228 114 LSA cam with AFR 205's is the combo that was used to make close to 500 rwhp. Tony Mamo, the designer of the AFR heads is the man to talk to about the AFR heads. I'll see if I can find that post for you.

Here's the link:

AFR 205's + 228/228 113* = 500 RWHP!!

^ Holy shnikeys!! Yeah.. I KNOW I can see 450 rw out of this cam, I just need a better intake, better LT's and exhaust and a better intake.. So I pretty much have to redo all my bolt ons. PatG got 460 out of it with his setup. These "mild" cams are quite underestimated. I'm just hell bent on making as much if not MORE power than the MS4.

Based on the raw numbers posted on the Texas Speed website one could arguably conclude that the PRC 215s outflow the PRC 227s, which seems odd. In comparing the PRC 215s to the TFS 215s, what importance, in any do you associate with the exhaust flow figures?
