Exclamation Can dealer disable VATS?

I acquired a Hypertech programmer from my buddy,as I was raising the rev limited etc.,I tried turning on my swapped LS1 RX7,it turned on then it shut off after about 10 sec.I checked all my wiring and such, and nothing. Now I'm actually thinking my PCM turned VATS on by itself. Some local guy here is charging me 200 to just disable VATS.

Could the hypertech have something to do with this? Can I reverse this?
Now,can the local dealer disable VATS with the VIN the donor car?

Buy EFI Live or HP Tuners and disable it yourself...I don't think it's the ECU, I think it's your wiring harness...It cost $100 for an EFI Live license, plus to travel to you, diagnose + find problem...

it is possible the hypertech put a full file into the pcm, vs just making changes to the file in the vehicle.

you can try to return to stock and see if that fixes it, but that only works if they save stock correctly, and put it exactly how it was before. some tuners do not do this, but the ones I work with do.

Dealerships cant change the tune at all, it would void their license. All they can do it update the file to the newest version which would have all the unwanted features in it still like VATS

Whats more, they have to do it in a vehicle, they lack even the most basic benchtop loading harness

I know a lot of dealer techs with tuning software. GM has a few different bench programming setups.

Techs are people, what they do is their business. Tuning or otherwise

What Im saying is they cant use any of those programs at the dealership because it would void their dealer license, much like they cant install any performance parts for you

I have worked at GM dealers for about the last 10 years. I have installed Cam's, heads, Blowers, headers, Gear ratio changes, Tire and wheel combo's. A lot has been GM performance parts, but not everything. I have install many custom GM calibrations. I have also used the GM Performance parts Programmers. I used Hypertech and one other that a guy got from GM.

I know of a Ford dealer that advertises custom dyno tunes.

I worked at Flow Chevy and they wouldnt let you put on an air filter if it wasnt pre-approved through GM

I tried to get a tune using their software and they wouldnt allow it

Wow
Not sure why that is.
Did you ever install a GM blower kit on a NA engine?
They made them for 4 cyl and V8's

I'm surprised that they wouldn't let you install an air filter... after they charged the customer their $85 'handling fee' in addition to quoted price.

They charged me like $30 S/H to send two MAP sensors via UPS ground from ONE STATE away (NC to VA... about $7 UPS cost).

(sorry for off topic; just saw Flow...)

Ive seen them, Ive seen them get voided at Flow too. Local guy had to tow his '10 camaro down to charlotte because flow wouldnt warranty it with the dealer installed (not flow) blower on it. The high ups seem to have a "my way or the highway" attitude

You should see the huge pile of aftermarket exhaust systems thats piled up near the dumpster from trade-ins

Ill believe it, they use UPS too

The ones I am talking about have a GM warranty on the parts and labor. I have an old blower around the house some place. I will pull it out and get the info off of the tag. It is a procharger off of an Escalade, but GM gave it a different name.

Look at the Tech II for I think 1998. look for a SuperCharged 4cyl. Another dealer installed kit.

Take a look at all of the Dealer installed upgrades to the newer Turbo and SuperCharged cars.

AGAIN I AM TALKING GM PARTS!

I think you need to talk to my buddy Bob Lutz

I've had GM dealers call me to turn off cat codes on cars and trucks they've taken in on trade with missing cats so they could sell them without a CEL on.

That's so funny, I've done the exact same thing...
I just did it on a 2006 H3 Alpha Hummer for a local dealership, no cats, just Magnaflow's out the back!

There are many dealerships that work with tuners.

Sorry for being that guy to dig up a dead thread.

I have a friend who owns a Tech II for personal use, he doesn't work for a dealer. Or any shop for that matter. Can I use his Tech II to disable VATS and emissions on my E38 ECM, so I can bleed (complex) cooling and hydraulic steering systems, in order to take the car to a real dyno tuner?

I'd rather have a real dyno tune, and don't feel like wasting money on a mail order tune or buying a tuning client myself, just to bleed fluid systems and load the car into the trailer to take it to a dyno.
