I agree. I love swaps, but for your goals I don't think it would be cost effective. In this case I even think modding the 5.4 would work out better than a swap. Not that I wouldn't like to see one more bowtie under the hood of a Ford.

The 5.4 is very capable, especially under boost.
I'd mod that before swapping in an LS based motor.

I word, cummins. You want kidney jerking tourque, not hp, that's what'll move those tires. Do an 03-07 common rail with a few mods and be at about 500hp and over 1000tq.

I would do a ford 460 with a zf 5 speed. This can be a cheap fun 500hp+ setup. But you will be spending big money at the pumps, a chevy tbi system may alleviate this problem to a degree.

I would swap in a p pump 12v cummins. Plenty of power and easy set up with very little wiring. I have a 07 ram 2500 4x4 with the 6.7 and love it. I also have a 03 2500 4x4 6.0 Silverado and it leaves something to be desired. The Silverado weighs less than my ram and it just cant get it done as well. I wish it had another 200ftlbs of torque. It becomes very apparent when towing 12k or so.
