Well Guys....That would be called a starter. It assists in turning the flywheel to start the engine

Haha, I love being a smartass, but in reality I have a noise as well. I could post a video and see if it's the same?

The problem your talking about sounds like a power steering problem:/ check your fluid and check all ur belts

Haha, Short Story Time....

When I bought the car about 4 months ago, the prev owner said it needed a new power steering pump as it was making a whining noise. Which it was and the dealer even agreed. I had it replaced and the noise was still there. Ended up being a simple idler pulley.

Now, I was told to not completely fill the power steering as it will not allow air to escape the system? It is not FULL but it is full.....if that makes sense?

I will check fluids in the morning

Now with your problem, could it be the CV Joint's?

The 2004+ Grand Prix's are notorious for having the power steering pump fail. Just because it's working now if it's making noise when you turn it will fail sometime.

Not sure if this is relevant, but when I had my 06 MC SS, it had a snapping or popping noise when you would turn the wheel in parking lots. Took us a while to figure it out, but when we had it up in the air on the drive on lift, one of my guys put his hand on the steering rack while I was turning the wheel. He was able to feel the snapping/popping noise in the rack itself. Thing is it would only do it if the suspension was loaded, like if it were on the pavement.

It's under the car behind the motor, and it's a long cast assembly that attaches to the wheels at each end.

If at low speed or parked you here a clunk when you turn the wheel, should be the intermediate shaft. You can grease it or I think there might be a recall?

sounds like the saverage PS system problem or maybe popping of the steering assembly itself.

does it only do it in cold weather or both? had similar problem and ending up being missalignment of a coiple front susp. parts
