Default What's up with my transmission?

It all started a couple of weeks ago when one night after work, I got on it, and my car wouldn't shift. The Rpm's went up, and the needle bounced, but my car wouldn't shift. So I let off and floored it again, and it finally shifted and I started flying.

Fast forward to this morning. I was on my way to work, when I came up to a red light. When the light turned green, I tried to accelerate normally. Once again, my rpm's went up, but my car BARELY moved. I let off, and tried again, same thing. I let off one more time, and gave it gas and it moved normally.

I'm kind of worried about it. I don't want to be at a red light, and it not move indefinitely. I hope my tranny isn't going out, because I just don't have the money to have it rebuilt right now.

its slipping, could be due to low fluid, bad filter, bad converter. prob a few other things im forgetting, but i'd check your fluid first and foremost

im just taking a wild guess but im guessing its a 4l60e? if so ur clutchpacks are going out , probably 3-4 like they all do. Smell ur fuid, if it smells burnt then ur clutches also going out.

If it's not moving from a dead stop it's not the 3-4 clutch pack. Put the car in park and with it idling check the fluid. It should be bright red and not have a burnt smell. When you wipe the fluid off the dipstick with a rag, see if there are extreme fine grayish particles. If it not low on fluid the next problem is possibly the converter. What converter is in it now?

Sounds like multiple problems, possibly forward clutch, forward sprag, and the 3-4 clutch.

Start with checking the fluid/codes and go from there.

Not every shift, and not from every light. It only did it once yesterday, except when I tried getting on it, then it did it again until i let off and floored it again. At that point it caught up.

Check fluid level first. If fluid is dark & glittery, there is possible filter clog. If you change the filter & issue still there, sad to say it may be time for rebuild.

Alright, have you guys ever heard of the cold weather doing anything like this? Today I went in to work at around 12:30, and it was somewhat warm out. My transmission never missed a beat. Tonight when I left work around 10:00 and it was chilly out, it initially did the lag thing, but not too bad. If cold CAN affect it, that's definitely the problem, because I have a gigantic 29.2k btu tranny cooler on it.

Cold seems to have an adverse affect on my car. When it's REALLY cold out, sometimes my abs inop light will come on until I disconnect and reconnect the abs block, then it's fine again. Also when it's cold out, sometimes my passenger side headlight will go out and I have to disconnect and reconnect the wiring harness, then it's fine again.

Well it could be a internal rubber piston seal that is hard which causes the clutches not to apply fully which gives you the no shifting reving high problem when it gets warm the seals get soft and start to seal but not 100% hope this makes sense to you dont worry about yout cooler uts the best thing to have for these autos
