so the other night i stopped to get gas on my way home from work. a very nice clean black on black ss camaro pulls up and got gas beside me. we started talkin, he said he had a full bolt ons and heads and cam car which made a little shy of 400whp. i pull out and he pulls out behind me, we rolled side by side at about 20mph and he hits it and gets about a car and half out, i hit it and passed him like someone dropped an anchor out the trunk. i went ahead and let out when i looked up and saw both of his headlights in my rearveiw lol. the part that surprised me was he got drug lke a rag doll and im not automatic and he had a 6 speed :nod:

He either has the worst H/C LS1 setup in the world, or it was on a mustang dyno to make less than 400rwhp. Did he do an LT1 swap or something? :lol:
And how did you let him get 1.5 cars out if you were side by side? Do you have the worst reaction time ever? :lol:

Eh, I would still think he could make more, even with an LS6 cam. Plenty of possibilities here though, God knows everyone doesn't have good combos, or the driver mod.

Don't under estimate 243s.. when properly done they excel.. look at the #'s in my sig... it still has more left in it in regards to more timing

yes lets not forget these heads were designed after a nascar head..and how long it took the aftermarket to make some substancial hp differences

My car has more cubes and 243's stock. I know enough about them to know that a mild cam setup with stock 243's in an LS1 won't always break 400whp. Anyone to think otherwise is in denial.

Ya for all we know the guy could of had a dana s60 with tall gears a heavy driveshaft and a built a4 robbing lots of numbers.. all depends on the setup

could also be a small cam and ported 241s. I've heard people say H/C after porting stock heads

Too many ppl hear "Heads/Cam" and think its always this radical crazy setup that makes exactly what the guy who made the most power ever makes. Also all heads/cam cars all run exactly as fast as the fastest guy who ever ran with heads/cam runs.
These numbers and times are passed along as typical, and factual, and anyone who can't run those times or put up those numbers are schmucks.
These ideals are usually pushed along by fanbois in either stock or near stock cars and/or v6 cars.

To me, H/C means aftermarket (or non-stock) heads. Everyone is different, and there are definitely plenty of weak combos out there. I don't doubt that you can make less than 400rwhp even with 243s or whatever, I was just pointing out that it's a weak combo whatever it is. Just thought I should point that out for clarification.

It's all in the combo.Sadly enough I'm one of those guys(m6) with less than 400hp at the wheels with heads and cam.373 rwhp 371 rwtq to be precise. afr 205s (not ported) 224/228 114 lsa comp cam,ls6 intake,magnaflow true duals,hp tuned and other mods don't really add to the power no need to mention.Still got stock exhaust manifolds and cats.Do I want more power? YES I DO.Did I pass smog YES.Not like the car is slow but I want more POWER!Living in Cali can force you to sacrifice.More mods on the way soon.2 years till my next smog!I'll find a crooked smog shop by then.Good kill.

wow with #799 heads(similar to 243's) and a 221/221 turbo cam I made 378whp and 369 torque on a mustang dyno. I now currently have a 224R cam. :D I don't know my WHP #'S now But I hope to be closer to 400whp.
I would have to say your power loss is in the stock exhaust manifolds... your car needs to breath with those heads/cam.

You couldn't be more right about the exhaust manifold's restricting airflow 'CamaroZ28 LS1',thing is I was worried about passing smog,wasn't too into the idea of getting shorty headers and now I have been looking (drooling over for over a month now)at that kentucky turbo kit with the 6.0 truck manifolds.That means a new rear end, fuel system ,forged internals,blahblahblah, etc is going to also be needed so I'm being a lil slow 2 pull the trigger on this idea.One(and only) thing good about the exhaust manifolds is my car is relatively quiet when just cruising and when I roll back into my quiet and cop infested town(Foster City C.A.) at 1 or 2 in the morning after causing trouble on the other side of the bridge I don't attract the boys in blue.Town is seriously a ghost town at night with just the police driving around.Sorry for thread hijacking OP.

Good kill though.
Many guys have made >400rwhp with ported stock LT1 heads, a custom grind cam, and ported stock intake to a 58mm TB
Most LS1 cars should be making ~400rwhp cam-only with accommodating bolt-on's, etc. so he must have a very mild setup.

58mm TB? That's TINY. My Regal is running a 75mm...
Also "most" LS1 cars will have a big problem going over 400rwhp on cam only setups.

LT1's are dual blade. Stock is 48mm TB.
And weird, I must not run with "most" cam-only setup LS1's. All of the guys I know with mild custom-grind cams, LS6 intake, PS LT's, ORY, catback, underdrive pullies, and all accommodating valvetrain for the cam are making 400rwhp through t56 with a tune

For power mods, my car had $900/pair ported LS6 Patriot heads, a 224/228 581/588 113 cam, Pacesetter LT's and ORY, SLP Flopac, cutout, Magnaflow catback, dynotuned at Eastside Performance on a dynojet.
Power-robbing mods were MN12 T56, 3.5" aluminum driveshaft, Moser 12-bolt with 4.10s.
The car put down 408/380 SAE with the cutout open on the straight pipe before the over-axle. On a different tune without the cutout, it put down 400/367 SAE on the same dyno (same shop's tune).
With 16" ET Streets on the back and 17" stock SS wheels up front, here's how it went the one time I took it to Atco (LVD was typically a couple tenths and a couple mph slower but I can't videos of that on this setup):

As for the power of the other car, don't forget guys, there was a time when most cam-only cars were only making 360-370 rwhp and it was considered good for a heads/cam car to hit 400 rwhp. He could have just had an older setup on the car.

I have been wanting to have some friendly runs with some of those guys for a while now and a few in his area that i want to bitch slap for being so ignorant. Hahaha
I know he was having some issues before but seems like he got them worked out.

Thanks man.. Glad you finally got yours running right.
I got another h/c car that would tag along.. Bolt on c5, nitrous stock car.. Maybe a bolt on stalled ta..We could make a pretty good video I think.
Not to count I REALLY want to see some tt2s on a pewter trans am because I'm thinking of trading. Plus both ours are the best color made so it would help a lot!!
