Cam with great drivability

"hit a mean lick" = "have excellent performance characteristics"
How "mean" do you want, and how far down the scale do you define "great driveability?"
Some people find a cam with mid-240s duration just fine on the street. Some folks don't like the performance of cams in the 218-224 degree range. Have a look at the sticky at the top of this forum, by member StealthFormula. It's a good guide to choosing a cam for your goals.
Welcome to the forum, BTW.

Thanks for the welcome!
I'll definately check out the sticky. I've already spoken to both LE & AI, but I didn't think to ask them about having a racy idle but yet still having good low end & great midrange.

I agree with the custom cam/LE route. You'll be able to get the best cam for your overall setup.
I've been thoroughly impressed with my XFI280 cam. This stick has a decent chop at idle and its totally streetable - hell this cam idles and runs better than my old hot cam'd 355 setup did. But if you're looking for good low end and mid range power this might not be the right cam - this stick has strong mid-range torque but likes the high revs. It spins my 383 up to 7000k pretty quick.

I have a forged 383 short block sitting on the engine stand. I'm just undecided about if I want it to have a smooth idle, or choppy, or racy. With the exception of being able to see the Borla exhaust tips my car looks completely stock. I still have the salad shooters on her.
I do know that I want dadgum good drivability. I've had to large of a cam before & don't want to go that route again.
