Default Another Slipping GXP Transmission- CAI affect Warranty?

Hey all,

Well i broke down and called the dealer today. Gotta take the car in tomorrow morning. It started out slipping all day untill after work and didnt miss a beat. So, hopefully it will act up at the dealer and not play possum.

I reloaded my factory tune and removed any sign of a tuner from the car.

It was doing the reving then going into gear from a stop and then slipping into 2nd and 3rd gear. I checked the level tonight its right on the money but does smell a bit odd. Kinda burnt but not to bad. Also there seemed to be some kinda dirt/debree on the dip stick when i first pulled it out.

Oh well thats why we have a warranty.

Oh and has anyone with a CAI had a dealer give them **** about it adding to the loss of the transmission??

Thanks,

Greg

They can't void your warranty for a CAI. Mine was acting like it was slipping today. Shuddering vibration into second and third. But again once it warmed up seemed fine.

yes, they can make a case for a CAI causing tranny problems as it can change the values that the sensors use to determine shift parameters.

They can and will void your warranty, depending on the dealer of course.

It's just my opinion, but I would make a good effort of finding the stock stuff and putting it on.

Make it stock if you don't want to buy a transmission for it. You're at the mercy of the dealer, and if the tech who gets assigned your car is having a bad day (Boss yelled at him, just found out the teen daughter is pregnant, wife didn't put out last night, etc.) it will cost you upwards of $3k for p&l.

Don't chance it.

Go back to stock, it is just easier than arguing with the dealer.

Just going off what my dealer told me. Long as it bolt on and not changing parts on the engine itself (rockers cam etc) that they can't. Maybe vary by state?

That's a reasonable position for the dealer to take, but unfortunately, each one is different. According to the Magnuson-Moss Warranty act, the modification would have to be directly related to the failure. Whether or not the a CAI could cause the failure would be something that a court would have to decide, so would you even want to fight that battle?

Well, if they don't make an issue of it, then you're fortunate. Many others have not been so lucky.

completely understandable however ... that a dealer would be unwilling to cover warranty work when there is something clearly modified ...

IMO, if you know enough about cars, or start to modify stuff ... chances are, youre going to keep going and a CAI would be the start of it ...

i can tell you what though ... after mine gets all fixed ( hopefully ... really crossing my fingers ) once my warranty is up in May ... its getting a Lewtune, shift kit, and tranny cooler ...

im already saving up ... lol

Definitely.

You also ought to consider the TEP valvebody and a Sonnax converter relief valve, as well as the "long sleeve" seal kit. It amounts to a partial rebuild, but should also prevent most of the trans issues our LS4 cars having. I'm getting that stuff done right now.

can that all be purchased from a common distributor ??

ill for sure keep it all in mind, because if they do give me a rebuild, or fix mine in some way, im not exactly sure what causes our problems ... im only going to have a few months left of warranty anyways, so it would be prudent to protect it as best as possible as soon as possible ... once the warranty is done that is ...
