Default MIL - Check engine light issue

I can't seem to get the check engine light to work. I've got an led with the positive side wired to ignition and the negative side to the brown/white wire. The pcm is throwing a MIL circuit code. It's a 2000 f-body engine / harness.

Has anyone had this issue before? Maybe I'm missing something.

Do you have the polarity on the LED correct, they only work one way.....check the LED and see if it's good, on a know power source...battery etc..

Yeah, I tested the light. Works fine with when grounding to the chassis and using ignition +.

An LED doesn't draw enough current to work properly. You need to use a regular lamp or a resistor with the LED. Since I'm at work I can't tell you what size resistor you will need but I think I have a link saved at home with all kinds of goofy info like that.

hmmm, did put a resistor on the led. Will have to try hooking up a regular bulb to the pcm ground and see if it works.

found the problem - previous owner of the harness cut the wire at the pcm - fixed and it works now. Funny, the harness was advertised as with "no cuts" and it had this and the egr pigtail cut off.

thanks for the help guys
