Default Holley Intake worth it??

Anyone running the Holley intake manifold? Or know if it's worth while putting on? This would be with stock ci, h/c, full exhaust.TIA

LS6 manifold will do fine. What year is your car? You may already have an LS6 intake.

Holley = waste......its exspensive, heats up, and won't get you anything. If you really want an intake (and already have the LS6....01 and 02s have it stock), go with the FAST (also a lot of money for what you get).

It's a 2000 so I know I have the LS1 intake. I was thinking of having it ported and maybe run a direct port set up on it. Is heat really a problem on those?

i have one and hate it!

it gets heat soaked bad! i lost power with it on the dyno due to heat soaking. i only have it because directport is easier to tap into metal than plastic

its a good 5-10hp difference between the LS1 and LS6.......

the ports are not difference between the two, its the plumbium (sp?) so porting wont get you anything (might actually hurt). If you want an intake, get the LS6, otherwise leave it alone and spend that $500 on something else (LT headers)

Going direct port like you want to do in addition to porting it over our 'plastic' intakes is fair enough reason to do it. The flexibility of fabrication is certainly a bonus, so in my opinion for the couple hundred extra bucks over a 'used' LS6 intake in order to get WHAT YOU WANT, I say do it.

This 'heat soak' issue is curious to me...has anyone every really been able to validate this? If so, how? How much is lost? 5? 10 ponies? Doubt it. Can't see how or why Lingenfelter/Holley put a product on the market that doesn't/won't make power. I see this intake making every bit the power of the LS6, if not more, based mainly on the ability to modify it.

I plan on strapping a polished one on before 'show' season, so my intentions are show biased. Ponies are still a priority for me as well but I really don't see losing any 'measureable' horsepower as a result.

Used a LS6 intake, made 3 pulls. Highest being a 390
Put on the Holley intake made 3 pulls the first being 388.9 the second being 390.3 and the 3rd being 390.7
I was impressed. It acturally gained more as the engine got hot like it always does.
Power wise for me was the same, I just wanted it for the looks.

Lingenfelter is not all knowing..........I had an interesting talk with a person who will remain nameless (in on the ground level with the Darton Wet sleeve) and he told me it took Lingenfelter almost a year to stop F*ing up LS1 blocks with the sleeve install....they COULD NOT GET IT RIGHT (funny how that happens when you DONT READ DIRECTIONS)......

ANY heat that is induced into the airstream is bad for HP. In addition, there are countless writeups about people having major fitment issues with that intake manifold.

Lingenfelter = overpriced name.......

That was helpful , thanks! What's that have to do with ls1newbie's question?

Nobody wants to 'induce' any heat . Major fitment issues?

Intresting point about LPE putting their name on it. I can't see them doing something without knowing that it actually works. They seem to be very driven by quality and doing things right. Does anyone know if LPE actually uses the intake on any of their TT packages?

As long as it will make at least the same power as a LS6, I would think it's worth it. It looks way better when it's polished. Thanks for the feedback.

They use the LS6 on all their packages.

Wonder why they don't use it if it has their name on it.

I have the intake brand new in box with all gaskets (got it as a gift). Not sure if I should put it on or sell it.

Are you sure it doesn't have John Lingenfelter's signature just left of 'Weiand' on the top of the manifold?

Mine doesn't leak, and fits great.

Nice SOTP difference over the LS1 intake, haven't gotten back to a dyno since the install.

I polished the runners on mine, it looks nice. Got it used for pretty cheap.

From what I hear it was made from an LS6 mold, but has the ability to be ported and machined much easier due to the aluminum material.

Happy driving,

Yes it does. I meant I wonder why they use a standard LS6 intake if they helped develop the alum. intake.
