Default MAF Identification

I've read that the '98s use a different MAF meter than the newer F-bodies, how could I make sure that the MAF meter in my car is the right one? I talked with the car's original owner, and he said there was an 85mm GMAF and MTI lid installed when he traded it in, but a stock MAF and lid was in place when I bought it. My guess is one of the techs traded the aftermarket setup for a stock setup + cash with one of his buddies or something, and might not have known the differences.

Would the car have drivability problems if a '99+ MAF was used? Thanks.

25179711 is the only part number i can come up with for the stock LS1 maf.

SLP sells 2 versions, a 98-00 and a 01-02, but that is only because the 01-02 has a less lean calibration, as the newer cars run leaner from the factory, and can't handle the addional lean condition put on by the older slp maf.

I have run a 2002 maf on my car, and my stock 98 maf, and exact same.

I was under the impression that the '98 MAF operated at a different frequency than the newer ones. Something like 12.5kHz vs. 10.0kHz? This is also the same reason I've read for why the Diablosport tuner doesn't cover the '98s, only '99+...

Thanks for the info.

your right, the 98 computer tops out the maf table at 11250 where the 99+ tops out at 12,000

the computer is different on the 98 cars, along with lots of the wiring, that is the reason for the no predator on the 98's they either, A, can't figure out the 98 computer, or B, don't think it is worth doing the 98 computers, due to one year application.

1997-2000 C5's also use the same 25179711 part number MAF. 2001+ they changed to the 5 wire design.
