Dyno Guesses & Bench Racing Forum - Can my son improve his chemistry grade?

So my 16-year-old son gets a crazy-hard chemistry test that nobody in the class passes. The teacher says he would give a passing grade to anyone who could beat him "in a straight-line race." We're going to assume he meant a quarter mile. My son doesn't know how serious the teacher is, but he'd like to call his bluff. The teacher's car is a 2005 Mustang GT auto, bone stock. My son has a 1994 T/A LT1 M6 with a Borla cat-back (but stock exhaust manifolds), a K&N FIPK and a BBK 52mm throttle body. My son's car runs very strong.

If your son can drive well it should be a pretty easy win IMO.

how long does he have till this extra credit assignment?
i would say grab a tick master cylinder, ditch the back seats, jack tire, floor mats, any junk in the glove box/console etc. does your son have street tires? stock clutch? might wanna consider a slightly better clutch and nittos too.

^Good point. I'll tell him to put it on a diet. It might make a bit of a difference. And I can loan him my DR's.

I don't think it will be easy at all. The cars should be very close, and it's only assumed that the teacher is telling the truth about his car being stock. He could easily have something like a K&N/stall/tune. Which would make it an easy win for the teacher.

How much is it worth to you guys? I'd throw a small 50 shot on there for the race.
Insurance.

yeah, OP i would have your son recon the teachers car and see if it is as stock as the teacher says.

as awesome as that would be...i'm leaning towards no. the last thing that should come out of this is a scandal about a street racing teacher.

i was going to suggest this but the kid being only 16 the car could easily get broken under his foot or even worse he could lose control.
i say dads DR's and a diet is about all that can be done.

Mild bolt-on, LT1, M6, DR, 50 shot... I don't think it would break loose on him, personally.

I used to edge out stock 05 GTs when I had the 350 in my car, but well driven lt1s with bolt ons would usually run out about 2 cars.
My prediction was based on info given...if the GT is stock and the kid can drive his car then I think he should be able to get the win.
Won't blow him away, but should definitely have the slight edge IMO.

let him race your car w/ the DRs on it, should be faster then the lt1

id tell him first to study! in all seriousness by chem 110 (entry chem class) in college was a pain in the ass and i sat around for hours studying just to get a D. Id definitely push him as hard as possible to get the grade.
on the flip side id put that bitch on a slimfast diet and loose everything thats not needed, all the stuff listed above and depending on how radical you wanna get maybe put your wheels on his car (stock wheel weight < most aftermarket wheel weight) the other thing you have to think about is his launch... maybe take him to an empty street to practice launches? just a thought.

Those 3v autos are f-ing slow. I beat em with my g35, and that's the same size as a camaro with less torque. Tell him to (politely) call the teacher out in front of the whole class. He cant say no. Mustang drivers have too much pride to back down to a LT1. Keep it legal and go to the track, then post a video. I hated chemistry...

Haha, oh lawd. At least tell me you're claiming to beat them with your G35 as-is. Not stock.

Most of the time its from a roll. I don't really go out looking to drag race my daily driver. Its got ridiculous camber and spins for days. To be honest, I don't think those mods did much. Maybe 10-15 rwhp. Don't get me wrong, Ive taken my share of 3v beatings over the years. But the g35 holds its own pretty well considering it has a 3.5l.

Well, my son talked to his teacher right before Christmas break, and Teach basically wimped out. He said he realized someone could go get Daddy's Porsche and beat him, which wouldn't be fair to the class. But he is going to grade on a curve this time. It sounds like my son might still get to race him, just for fun. Thanks for all the suggestions.
