Default 408 cts-v idea, need some feedback

ok, i have a buyer for my camaro , and he wants the ls1 and 10 bolt back in. so i had planned to sell my 408 and 12 bolt. now i have an idea of putting my 408 in the V. i will still sell the 12 bolt. but i was wondering if any of you who have been modding these car longer can give me a heads up on any potential problems. i know about the rear, i plan on getting a full girdle and g-force axles. one thing i thought of was the extra weight of the iron block. so maybe i need some kind of stiffer springs. i don't autocross or really push the car through corners super fast so if i lose a little bit of handling im ok with that. as long as it wouldn't kill handling. my 408 is on the 500-525whp range.

I say do it, the weight differences is only around 80lbs.

Like you said, your not auto-crossing so who cares. The extra power will be awesome just be nice on the shifts and don't launch it.

yeah, i hear ya about the launches, on my last dyno the 408 was putting over 350 torque to the wheels at 2000 rpms, and thats through a heavy 12bolt. does anyone know if f-body long tubes will fit in the ctsv engine bay?

Unfortunately not, the bay is very tight.

its a lq4 block, and the setup is TSP ported l92/ls3 heads l76 intake of course, custom 23x/ 24x cam on a 116 lsa. i want a sleeper setup. i wonder how bad stock manifolds will choke it off.

The stock manifolds would choke it but you would still have over 450wheel most likely!

I say do it then you could always upgrade the headers...

You could always put the battery in the trunk, to transfer some weight; although can't imagine it weighing more than ~30 lbs or so. Still, if you want to keep it close to oem weight (up front), although doubt it's gonna make a big difference.

well after reading that thread about the new obx headers, I'm on the fence now. the only thing is i don't want my caddy to sound like my camaro. but maybe if i leave the cats on and the stock x-pipe it will keep the rap down.

if he only wants 450 he might as well sell the 408 and do a cam(sleeper style like he wants), Fast intake and long tubes for like 3500 and have 440-450.

Dropping a 408 this weekend, had to have custom mount plates made, all the lq9 blocks do not have the extra mounting bosses on the block

well mines a lq4, but what exactly is wrong with the mounting bosses? do you mean on the alternator, because i did have that done at the shop. but if you mean the engine mounts, do the stock ones set it too far back or forward? this is the first i have heard of this.

well that idea was my first idea, but, i already have the 408 and can install it myself as i have a decent shop, and after i will have a 40k miles ls6 to sell. so on one hand i can spend around 2-2.5k for a nice heads cam, install myself, or i can install my paid for 408 and sell my ls6 for ??? 1k?? . but of course i wont get the money from my 408 sale, which i have tried to sell for a month now and noone wants to pay over 3k for, which after paying for heads/ cam i would have about the same left either way, but the 408 has more potential. so the point of all my rambling is that i have thought about this quite a bit.

i say do it, you can run the obx headers and some quiet mufflers and that should be ok. or even add in some resonators under the car.

yeah, i will go look at my engine next chance i get to see what mine looks like. i will most likely buy those from you. that's a good price for making the install easier, i hate fabbing things up myself, i can do it but my stuff never looks pretty, it just works.

Correct.

Moving a 30lb battery from the front to the back would almost completely counteract the 80lbs added to the front (balance wise). keep in mind, you are not only removing the weight from the front, you are adding it to the back. Net result of the iron black plus battery relocation would be +30lbs rear, +50lbs front if the iron block weighs 80lbs more. Basically it would behave as if you had a child (or a really petite hot chick) in the passenger seat.

I say its a good idea.
