Question formula firebird ?'s

a friend of mine just bought a 99 trans am. 54k and the thing is immaculate. the dealer called it a formula firebird, but the car says trans am. i do know that the lt1 era cars had a formula option, but i've never heard of this on on the 98+ cars. can't find anything on it. is this actually an option or just dealership stupidity?

Every V8 Bird starts off as a Formula. Then the Trans Am package is added onto it. (Y82) So every V8 Bird, regardless of trim level, is titled as a Firebird Formula on every title, paper and document from the BMV to a dealership. My Trans Am is the same way, so is every other V8 LS1 Bird.

I have noticed that insurance wise and sometimes even carfax, which could very likely be where they saw it, usually it just says something like Formula/Trans Am instead of just one or the other. But both my titles just say Firebird Formula for the 3rd gen and the 4th gen.

Regardless, both are beastly cars and the most beautiful of the firebirds.
