Question Forgot something on cam swap

I forgot to put the relucter ring back on during my cam swap yesterday, and everything is sealed and torqued down. Doing away with emissions, so can I just use an obd1 and get it flashed from a mail order tune? I DO NOT want to tear back into it!! Any suggestions?

If you want your timing chain to last you will put it back on.

Sounds like he's talking about the crank sensor to me.

If indeed you are talking about the wheel for the crank position sensor it will affect a couple of things.
Your crank position sensor will throw a code with the OBD2 PCM. But, it might anyway if your cam is lumpy enough.
Your bottom pulley/balancer will not line up perfectly with the other pulleys. The hub will tighten down against the lower timing gear even without the wheel there. How bad your pulley alignment will be off will depend on how thick that gear is. A double roller will be almost as thick as the single roller with the reluctor wheel like the original set up. I run a Cloyes double roller and made a spacer to make up the difference but I know of others who have just run without it using that chain. The spacer is tiny, like a hair over a 1/16" IIRC.
If your running the single roller you can make a spacer the exact width of the reluctor wheel or I think you can just use an OBD1 car's hub.

Yep-crank sensor. I heard obd1 cars don't have them - just 96-97 obd2

Cool! Many thanks! I don't see how leaving it off would affect the life of the chain. I used a stock replacement though. If I had a new engine it would be a nice dual roller.

It's gotta have a tune anyway, so screw it - I'm not looking back after ripping my front oil pan seal and the water pump shaft seal during the install. I know what you guys are saying about the love-hate LT1's now!

The love-hate is almost ALWAYS because of a lack of understanding by the owner. Thank you for personifying that.

Cmon guys- it's not that big of a deal what I missed. If it was the thrust plate, I'd go back and make it right. Emissions can go in the trash. Wouldn't doubt that I can still use my obd2 and get the sensor tuned out. Get myself an earlier crank hub and it's go time.

Prolly cost more in the long run for the crank hub and tune then to take the couple hours to put it back in.

Btw...I LOVE LT1's and this forum for all the great cars and owners who have had the highs and lows of working on ANY motor.
