S-10 Project Truck *Updated* 1-9-11
Found this Lonely S10.
It's a 1987 S-10
Its was last registered in louisiana.
Well This has become a project truck and I've done some progress on it.
He says it runs (4cyl.) but the master cylinder is broken or something in that area.
Started to work on it~!
1-3-11 Update
It was fun pulling it out.
Took me about 2 hours to get it all out. Time to clean her up!
Cleaned her u bit the engine looks solid.
might sell if it any one buys it.
1-9-11 Update
Harness is off.
The dash is almost out!
and found the ugly truth.... RUST and ALOT of it

Found this Lonely S10.
I think its a 1991?
Its was last registered in louisiana.
Would it be a good idea to maybe put in a ls1 with a t56?
I found a website with the motor mounts.
And it seems to be a pretty popular truck to convert into a v8.
The owner does not want it in his yard anymore.
And i can pick it up free of charge

what do you guys think? Any ideas?
Advice....
Should i pick it up
or just let it die in the texas sun

droppedls1z deal. It would cost you more money to fix that thing up then its worth to pay someone to do all the **** it needs.
**** I would jump on this deal free money lol

it depends on how you want to go, i personally would take it just because its free. but get the truck and title, then make a plan (new school, or old school set up)then stick with the plan. basically set in your mind how you would like the truck then work to that goal. it also depends on how much you want to spend. you can spend any where from $200 to $1000 on v8 swap parts.

But i wouldn't mind spending some cash on the car
I would like it to be some nice weekend warrior i can use

i would do it, the parts for s10's are fairly cheap and plentiful so it can be fixed easily and the v8 swap isn't all that hard unless you are doing a EFI swap then the wiring takes a little longer.

depending on what and how you are trying to do it will determine the difficulty. i've owned to v8 s10's, 1 carb, 1 TPI. the TPI ate up so much time and money with a bogus harness that i ended up selling it before i finished it. the carb'd one was fun, but trying to put 450hp down in a s10 wasn't at the time, it made for some good burnouts though.

the wiring harness will eat you alive unless you know what you are doing, based on the dash im guessing it was a fuel injected truck to begin with. so there are plenty of wires that are not going to be used, then if you drop a lsx in it you will have to merge the harnesses, i have a friend that does this. actually he is currently building a lsx powered 85 s10 right now. the carb way is a lot cheaper and easier. my s10 was carb'd and i loved it. it got on average 6 mpg city and 10 mgp hwy. not to great but it was a high 9 second truck that i drove every day. so dont rule out a carb, they can make some serious power that you can still drive, and less wiring to boot. but like i said earlier, make a plan for the truck and stick with it, you will spend a lot less if you do it that way.

I'm in the process of doing a LS swap into a 95 right now. Current Performance makes swap harnesses specifically for LS into s10s plus everything else you'll need to make it work. By the time I'm done I'll probably have about $6k in the build not counting the engine/trans but thats all new suspension/brakes/Cal-Tracs/over priced coated step headers / A/C components, etc.. basically doing a frame off resto on mine.

I think it would be smarter to fix it up a little bit, pull the interior to clean it, get it running good and sell it for a late second gen or third gen..
If you want to build it up then go for it. I'd say start simple and go with a SBC or BBC swap. You can get a complete motor and trans from pick a part for a few hundred bucks.
A 5.3 with a budget turbo would be sweet too.
