Default So tired of opti, sell car or fix.

I've got 94 TA Lt1 with 373's and a 2800 stall. Car is a repair project at most times, but runs good with mods. However, this is the 6th or 7th opti. Went thru a puddle last weekend, now stutters. I am so tired of the lack of dependabilty with this opti design. Have an 02 M6 LS1 to keep me in an F-body. What is the general consensus, sell as is or keep and fix ?

Yes, its called rain and water puddles. The car ran great for about 2 years, better than the LS1, with the mods of course. I've had the car about 10 or 11 years. But a puddle I went thru in a parking lot was deeper than I thought, it stalled immediately, drove home fine, then a few days later, the same symptoms. I also have a dodge ram that plows thru puddles like a boat. No problems ever....... Is it possible to keep the car and eliminate the opti all together, maybe even a naturally aspirated 350, with a standard distributor ? Car is way quick from a red light or so........I will miss it, but what a headache.

I dunno.....it 'll cost one or 2 average car payments, then it will run great again. I never have changed one myself before, perhaps i should try. I suppose stay away from deep water and use the rtv as the prior poster mentioned and that may solve this issue. ...???

ahhh ,...and now we know why they get wet still after 7...shops aren't going to seal it more...you think they care if it lasts longer? an LT1 owner either has tools and knowledge or $$ and no worries.

good point.... Is this something I could handle?.....I would hate to buy one and ***** it up doing my own install. The last one installed was an MSD, and worked great, but i suppose it not meant to be a submarine....

Please opine all. I have replaced some parts myself, such as window motors, replaced front end and fenders, headlight motors and minor hose, fuel line repairs, etc. If I sell the car as is, it might not fetch even $1,000. However, if opti is fixed, myself or mechanic, I'm considering going from 373's to 410's. Already have the HPP. I also have to admit, I soaked the opti due to error. So, would 410's be a nice improvement over 373's or what ?

5th LT1 car, only had to change one opti on my 94 Caprice, every fbody has been great. i've driven all 4 of my LT1 fbodies through rain and snow and never had an issue. if you're playing submarine commander and plowing through 4" puddles you're just asking for trouble. otherwise, buy a new one from "thepartsladi" on ebay. they are GOOD GM optis, you were probably buying the crap new ones.

Never heard of EDI24x.......please elaborate. As for the 410's, a big deal over 373's for a stock motor with a 2800 stall ?........also TC is an art carr & gears are richmond. Car moves better than those little annoying 350z nissan, about 30 grand or so new....

Hey all, I'm quite impressed with all the LT1 TA's in the pics you have, they all look good. I dont see many around South FLA. I actually like the pointy front end better than my ram air Ls1 TA.
