I need some advice on a obd2 w/ or w/o obd1 (not really needed) scan tool. Laptop based that can scan American and Asian cars. Being able to scan German cars is also a plus. I rather buy something that can scan all 3 so that i don't have to buy a scanner just for German cars like MB, BMW, Audi/VW. Please point me in the right direction. I would like to stay in the $2000 range maybe even $3000 if a lot of people swear by it. I love the Modis but it is WAY.... out of my price range and the Ethos is just not cutting it. Professional model only.

Try this guy out, it is a good tool, updates are only $100 a year. I have all the scanners out there, both OE and the aftermarket, this is a good compromise.

You need to find a used Snap-on solus and be done with it. I picked up my Solus on Craigslist for $1800 a while back and it does more than any other scanner on the market. Does ALL foreign/domestic, ABS, air bag, etc...The only thing that sucks are the bi-yearly updates.

Thanks! It is hard to finding a used one in Las Vegas. I'll check out the local pawn shops.

+1 for autoenginuity. Good tool at a good price and I've not seen better cust service. Updates are WAY cheaper than anyone else I've seen. No OBD 1 coverage though.

I don't really need the latest updates because the newest car we have is a 2006 Toyota.

FWIW, the Solus does all OBD I and II vehicles. The Solus is the scanner everybody goes to when there's can't get the job done.

I haven't had any luck at the local pawn shops. Might buy it from Ebay. Just hope i don't get scammed.
