Default Broken down at the Drag Strip: How did you get your car home w/out a trailer?

Not like I'm planning anything but as the hp numbers rise on my M6 w/ the stock 10-bolt, I worry more and more about what to do if the diff. goes while I'm at the track.

I'm curious to hear of what some of you guys did to get your baby back home to fix it. Hopefully I can get some good ideas to help me plan for the future. The tracks I usually go to are a good 50 miles from any place I could tow my car, so I'm not looking forward to it. I've already have some space cleared on one of my CC's that is reserved solely for a strange 12... , but its just not feasible right now.

My TTA blew its torque converter at over 100mph at etown... The car barely drove properly but I somehow drove it home (clanking and chugging the whole way) from NJ to Long Island!

I've limped stuff home a few times, sometimes you can do that. Other times I had to call a tow truck. I bought a trailer last year since my car is now too radical.

Wow that's cheap.

A good friend of mine owns a local towing company, but for people that have no connetions, a 50+ mile tow could easily cost $300+

Yeah, looks like AAA is free towing for 3 miles, then its $2.50 per mile after that. How much is a membership anyways?

Oh, and doesn't Pontiac/GM have ermergency service too?

AAA+ = 100 miles free. Don't expect them to keep you as a member if you use it too many times.

Worth every penny and 5% discount on progressive insurance that will pretty much cover AAA+'s price

AAA+ will do several 100 miles a year then cancel your policy if you dont give them more money. lol. but one towjob for 100 miles will make you wish you'd had it.

You've got to be kidding right??

AAA would work, or you could always ask someone else there at the track that has a trailer, their car may be driveable enough to drive it home. Im sure they will expect payment also, but may not be as much as a tow bill.

have friends that bring trailers that tow streetable cars. The night I blew the motor in the Nova last September my friend Jason (who owns a local speed shop) towed my car back to his shop while I drove his 10 second pump-gas Nova home. Definately beats paying $100 tow bill and not knowing if joe-schmo will screw up your prized car.

AAA gold will give you 5 free tows(100 miles each) a year for anycar that you are in. I believe it was $100 a year for the entire household, so every driver will get 5 free tows. I had a friend towed off the track at Road America for free and towed about 50 miles home.

ok so + is the premium one then right?

cause their site says:
EMERGENCY TOWING
If a Member's vehicle cannot be made to operate safely under its own power, towing from the point of disablement will be provided as follows:
1. To the repair facility of the Independent Contractor responding to the call, regardless of distance, free-of-charge; or
2. To any other destination of the Member's choice within 5 miles traveling distance from the point of disablement, free-of-charge; or,
3. To any other destination beyond 5 miles traveling distance from the point of disablement, at the special rate of $2.50 (cash or check) for each whole mile (fractional mile) in excess of the first 5 miles, which must be paid by the Member to the driver at the time service is provided and is not reimbursable.
ah, found it I'm so getting AAA+

AAA Plus provides towing to any destination within 100 miles of the breakdown. For tows over 100 miles service if practical, will be provided at the preferred rate of $2.50 per mile (cash or check) payable by the Member.

hmmm... so if I brake in Kentucky... ~500 miles from home... can I have 1 tow truck tow me exactly 100 miles... then call them up again for another tow truck? (repeat x5)
