Default 6.0+4L60 on a 70 Chevelle

Hi guys,
I have been waiting a little to start my post mainly because there was not much to report, basically I had been gathering the parts, I left the poor Chevelle basically unattended for nearly a year, but now I want to make it a new year resolution to get it running… and creating a post of the build might be a good start.
First of all, the project started several years ago with the intention of being a contender in the “Street Shootout” that a magazine I was printing at the time (AutoXtreme) was sponsoring.
Then I foolishly got carried away stripping everything that did not contribute to speed. Out went the seats, power steering, power brakes, A/C etc.
I built a tunnel rammed, solid cammed 383 SBC, but I sold it before I installed it –it eventually ran 11’s in an 81 Montecarlo in full street trim.
Then I Built a 468 BBC with a Team G intake, a 1150 dominator, a lumpy solid cam, fully ported, large valve oval port heads and a NOS Cheater system, coupled to a Muncie M22 Rammetallic clutch and a 12 bolt with a 4.10 gear.
Long story short… I was never able to hook it up, couldn’t work good tires into the budget. I only took it once to the track and traction was impossible, smoking the tires all the way to a 15.01 pass –I know super lame, especially with a very healthy Big Block. Hitting the nitrous? Unthinkable!

Somebody offered me good cash for the BBC and then the LSX saga started.
I got myself a complete 6.0 out of a ’02 truck, I originally intended to go with a carburetor since I had a couple and knew well how to tune them. But going through this site helped me lose the fear of High Tech and decided to go instead with fuel injection.
I traded a disassembled but complete 454 BBC for a GMPP single plane intake (I was really burning the bridge making sure I would not return to BBC)

I procured an Edelbrock RPM 2215 cam for very cheap, and LS6 Yellow springs, then I got an Edelbrock EFI elbow to mount the TB.
I had a choice of transmissions TH350, TH400, TH2004R and a 4L60E. Of course I wanted an overdrive so the choices were easy, then I went for the 60E mainly because I would be able to control it with the same computer.
Then I came across a good deal on a set of new L92 heads with Ferrea valves on them, I grabbed them, Got me a Victor L92 EFI intake and a slightly bigger but still very mild Comp Cams 54-444-11 with 224-230/.581-.588/114lc.

Just for fun I have the NOS Cheater plate sandwiched between the Intake and Elbow, will probably do a 100HP shot once everything is running right.
I intended to use a 4L60E out of a 1998 truck, but then I got a TCI Pro Converter for an LS1, I might just replace the bellhousing pump and input shaft assembly or simply go to an LS1 4L60E. In the mean time the regular 4L60E with stock converter is still in the car.
Then I started disassembling the Chevelle for painting…

Then I moved out of the country, left the Chevelle behind and came to get it a couple months later…
It is now being prepared to finish the paint job, Fenders, doors and hood. Then final assembly will begin.
I have not started the engine, but I have mocked it over a thousand times on Desktop Dyno (making the requisite engine noises of course!) and it tells me 528HP @ 6500 and 474LbFt @ 5000!
I wish, I wish, I wish! I am keeping my fingers crossed and of course this power level has been confirmed by several build ups on magazines like Car Craft and others as well as other buildups on the Net. I will have to wait ‘till I start it and put it on a real Dyno.

Right now I am patiently waiting for the Body man/Painter to be finished, since it is about the only thing I can’t do myself.
In the mean time I am keeping anxiety at bay by planning a 5.3 swap onto my 69 C-10, that one is still in the very early stages, I haven’t tuned the ECM yet and I do not even have the harness… more on this one later.

I have a new set of motor mounts adapter plates on my Chevelle.
These are inxpensive I will sell them for 50c plus shipping, but these are not reccomended for off roading due to extreme rocking of the engine.

BTW I postd the previous picture where I was measuring the plates just to show you the style I came up with.
These (The lower ones) mount with 1" spacers between the engine and plates.
They allow the use of a Truck pan without hitting the centerlink on full lock turns, and as a plus they allow the use of a truck AC compressor and bracket with minimal modifications.
They are made of sturdy 3/8 plate for excellent strenght and thread retention.
Thy were made for an A-Body, but I suppose you could use in any passenger car application where you need a little extra clarance while retaining the stock mounting points and no welding.
I can sell them for 45 dlls a set plus shipping.
I also have several sets of the STD one (like the upper in the picture) and the "Setback" (which to me is no setback at all since it places the engin flange where th SBC/BBC would be.
PM me if anyone is interested.
Thanks
Rat Chevelle
