Default fuel pressure problem.. Maybe

So i got my car finally running.. But now it wont really hold idle to well and will sometimes back fire.. Sometimes my fuel pump wont kick on right away.. Im pretty sure i prob. have a short somewhere in that wiring.. Could this cause the car to back fire like that? like a dip in pressure and then it coming back on..

Usually in that instance a backfire is a timing issue. Have you done anything with plugs and wires lately? Some mod details could be helpful.

check the simple stuff first. it isnt a bad idea to check the fuel pressure. so do that first, along with checking your spark plug wires; aswell as your spark plugs.

mods are as follows..
new shortblock with arp rodbolts new bearings gaskets rings etc..
stage 3 ported heads
cc306 cam
1.6 rr
arp headbolts
new opti
csr elec. wp
new wires..

Ill def. get a gauge on the rail.. I am gonna go ahead and order the racetronix harness.. It will only back fire sometimes below 1k rpm when i give it gas.. Like it hesitates a little bit.. could it maybe be a cracked plug? I'll def. give it all a look over..

Could be a vacuum leak in the intake manifold...

hook your o2 up and that should clear it up, otherwise the air/fuel will be off on one side, does it run fine before it reaches operating temp? and also cap the hole or hook the vacuum line back up to the opti

If you have a pump or electrical issue installing our harness will not solve your problem.

Get a copy of the GM service manual section on fuel system diagnosis. You will need a multimeter, a good mechanical fuel pressure gauge and some basic tools to properly diagnose your problem.

Well i really think i have found the issue.. I didnt have time to get a fuel press. gauge today but im almost sure its the fp wiring.. Sometimes the fuel pump wont prime and when i wiggle the relay it will prime.. The relay is new as well.. I think he wiring at the base of the relay may be bad.. I held the car at 2k rpm..(I have poly motor and tranny mounts) and the car died after sitting there for 45 secs.. turned the key back and then to the run position and sure enough the fuel pump didnt engage.. Wiggle the relay and it came on.. Racetronix harness should be here tomorrow so i look forward to installing that to see if it will help and im going to also see about replacing my relay base..

Racetronix said it once already, but their harness will NOT fix your problem. All their harness does is relocate where the fuel pump draws its power. I would just replace the relay with an OEM one if the wiring looks good. Seems pretty obvious that that is your problem. It's p/n 15306045.

I totally understand that the harness will not fix my issue.. I just am looking forward to installing it and seeing how it helps my car.. haha.. I got a fp relay at advance.. should i look to gm for one? The wiring looked "OK" no cuts but i think im seeing some corrosion..

Throw the new relay in and see if it works.

Being handy with a multimeter also helps.

Oh i guess i should have clarified.. I was using the new relay... I get the same issue with both.. The corrosion is on the actual base of the relay.. not the relay itself

Just wanted to let everyone know that the issue is solved!! It was the fuel pump relay connector.. Put new leads on it and it works just as it should!

Glad to hear you fixed it! it wouldnt hurt to throw in the fuel pump hotwire kit as an extra precaution.
